It is too bad HD or Lowe’s does not do Military Discount on wood products. I like the 10% off on other stuff. HD is nice and even does it on top of sale prices, but Lowe’s only gives you the larger of the 2.
Remodeled a couple of bathrooms and the kitchen saving a lot with the discounts. Before Covid a sheet of hardwood plywood was around $40 bucks now close to $100. I use that and edge tape which looks almost as good as solid hardwood. Now days is just too expensive for any large project.
People wonder why I charge to prices I do. Six pieces of this Zebrawood from Africa, to build this little treasure box were $120 By itself. Then I got hardware, felt, spray lacquer, dowel rod for corner pegs, luan bottom, biscuits for joining the top together, glue, and hours of work and sanding and polishing discs. I tell them if you don’t want quality custom work with real wood, fine, go to ikea and buy sawdust wood. The other box is Purpleheart wood from South America and that is the woods natural color, no stain. Don’t even ask what it costs.

Nice work Joel! Most people don't realize the amount of work and detail that goes into something like this. One of my best friends back east was (he's retired now) a custom carpenter and I followed behind him over the years doing custom homes. He would build custom raised panel arches, bookcases, etc right on site. It's a night and day difference doing the painting behind a good, experienced craftsman then most of the hacks out there who have no clue what a coping saw is or how to even miter. 🤦‍♂️ I've made many poor carpenters look WAY better than they are. lol

Beautiful work.
Do you do the joints by hand or machine? I always cheated and used the CNC machine at my work tolerance's so tight you could assembly without glue or nails if I wanted to. Got spoiled, now that I retired from there only have small power tools and hand tools. Built a lot of cabinets and storage for the home we sold in So Cal. Usually took me longer to design and make the cutting program then to actually cut and assembly it.
Price of finish got out of hand also, and in CA it was all water based worthless stuff. You needed at least 4 to 5 coats to get it anywhere close to nice.

Took a little trip to the ol’ park- not notable, but the motivation for this post was I realized this is the first and only vehicle I’ve ever owned where I not only turn around to look at it but feel the motivation to take a picture or two. Definitely my favorite vehicle.

Same here. I’ve bought new cars every few years since 1984 and this Ranger is in the top two bumping first, second maybe only to my 1999 diesel dually. Third I guess would be my 2010 Mustang five speed. I always took “look back” pics as you can tell…. 😁

Is it okay to step on the bumper in front of the license plate to boost yourself up? I usually do that but seeing hitch steps makes me wonder if maybe I’m not supposed to be doing that…
Of course you can, that's part of why it's textured there! Hitch steps are more for accessibility and protection of the bumper cover, especially in tight parking spaces or bumper-to-bumper traffic.
