My driveshaft center carrier bearing was making a slight bad bearing noise, could only hear it with the windows up. Dealer confirmed it was bad and replaced it. Only have 16800 miles on it. Hope this one lasts longer.

I hope so, too. After reading some I believe Ford had a bad batch in 2019-2020 and should have corrected it.

Hey Joel, I was thinking this might be the issue you brought up in another thread. It’s not uncommon for these to fail. Problem is, you can’t just buy the bearing assembly - you have to buy the entire driveshaft assembly. Not crazy expensive but dumb, right?

Typical, that way they sell way more parts. I’ve had the center support bearing go out on two older trucks on the interstate and it’s not a good feeling. I’ll probably utter a few unpleasant words at the dealer but at 148,000 miles on the original, I guess I cant complain too much.
To be truthful, I didn’t even realize this truck had a two piece drive shaft till I was sitting in the pizza place this evening cruising the internet and downing a Heineken from a frosty mug. I agree with you in that I’m leaning towards that being where my noise is coming from. Thanks for your response.

That’s the same issue I have now but I’m at 148,000 miles. I can hear a grinding with windows up and air off so I’m suspecting center bearing. Going to dealer in Williamsburg in the morning.

I would have to double check but you can get the bearing separately now - but it requires a press to get it off and on.

That’s really good news for folks who have the tools and the skills. 👍

Yep, center support bearing going out.
Had the dealer order a whole new drive shaft.
That’s really too bad but at least it didn’t fail and leave you stranded somewhere, waiting for a tow truck. Like you’ve said, not bad for a trouble-free truck with 148,000 miles.

I’ve had them go out on older trucks on the road and it is not a good situation. I can’t complain at all with the good luck I’ve had with this truck.
Dealer wanted $1500 to install a new bearing on the old shaft. I said “that ain’t happening.!” I don’t trust them to hammer on a new bearing or get the drive shaft halves timed right again.
Ordered a brand new complete drive shaft from Ford for $1150 installed. Be here next week hopefully.

Apparently the bearing can be replaced now but dealer wanted $1500 to do that.
NOT.!!
But if a fellow had the proper tools and the know-how, could be a much less expensive repair.

I'd strongly suggest spending your hard earned money on a Tom Woods one-piece driveshaft ($729) instead of paying Ford to install their out-of-phase two-piece with center bearings that fail. Would arrive at your house in a week or less as well...

THIS ^^ . In addition you’ll be getting a different drive shaft from Ford. They will “update” you to the Tremor style driveshaft which includes changing the pinion flange. Something to think about especially if you’re paying out of pocket.
