I own 4 Ford vehicles, each with Nav. My newest is a '24 RR and It is my understanding it, along with all new Ford vehicles with Nav will have to pay for a subscription service after 3 years. The dealer did not know exactly the cost but his guess was around $100/year. Speculation of course.

Tipping,. I stayed at the Best Western in Tooele, Ut while attending the Raptor Assault course. Their morning Continental Breakfast was totally unmanned. It was okay, not the best, not the worst, just okay. On the table was a large container - "Tips." As was said, out of hand. I agree, totally.

My 2022 just hit 3 years of ownership, I forgot to check for map updates prior to the date.
Just checked and no longer free updates as I am now past (11-days) 3 years.
Its now $109 for the download version which has been free up until now.
Normally someone would post (hey there's an update available) to remind me.
DOH -somebody on here failed to do their job. ;) and Frenchy had to pick up the slack but it was too late.

Even so, I can understand (Updates & Fees) but cannot understand a completely useless NAV without a Subscription.

Via Google - Sync 4 (Navigation)
Offers 3 options.

1. Embedded Navigation - 3 years of free updates, so this is the same we have on the Ranger
Reverts back to (Embedded Navigation) if (Connected Navigation Expires)

2. Connected Navigation - 90 Day (Trial) - Reverts to a (Moving Map) if it expires

3. Smartphone Navigation

So, I THINK there should be a setting within the Sync Display to switch it off of (Connected Navigation) and back to (Embedded Navigation) as this is what I am led to believe by the documentation.
But It has to have the feature to offer both (Embedded & Connected) from what I can tell.

I have it on good authority that for model year 2027 the nav unit will come with a credit card, Google wallet reader. Enter where you want to go, and you pay based on miles and terrain complexity. If you need to re-route for an accident or whatever, it's an extra charge.

Part of why I like my Garmin Tread. Yes it is a pricey unit, but it is a one time charge and I'm set

I had a Garmin for long, long time. Served me well, and with free updates. Too bad it wouldn't take a charge anymore. (I was kidding about the card reader.)

Is there an new Sync 3 or Nav maps updates for the Sync 3?? Last one I saw was at least a year ago and maps more like 2 years. The Ford site ever tells you what version you can/are downloading.

PS: Talked to Ford Sync Help line... NA 2 24 maps are out. Sync3 is still at 3.4 build 21388. I guessing this will be the end of updates for Sync3; maps may be continues but at $109 (currently) per update.

Yes - I guess I should have included that piece of information.

There was a sign at the gate saying something like, "We're sorry. Your GPS has brought you to the back of the Mammoth Site. Please follow the map below to the visitor parking lot."
There's a road near me that has a sign, "This is not a road, this is my Driveway - Google is wrong"

So been updating Maps, even recently. Wondered why with Apple, Waze and Google maps.

Well, the phone app maps rely on a cell network. I offroad outside cell coverage so the Sync3 is on the GPS satellite network. Sync3 saved my butt getting lost in Joshua Tree trails/washes. Used the CRUMBS feature to backtrack to my original route to get back on track.

Also surprised how many dirt trails show up on Sync3!

Won’t mentioned nice to have SiriusXM off the grid.

Enjoy your toys!

The phone apps allow you to download offline maps to prevent this issue. At least with Google it is automatic for the area you live in. You may need to update if you have traveled outside that region.

But good luck getting them to come up when you are offline. That was something I noticed when I had my 2019 and it sucked.

Well I got my new to me work van yesterday(2022 Transit Cargo) and it's pretty nice in the package area. It even has Factory Navigation. But I have to ask since I'm was out of the Ford game for a bit. When did Ford start requiring you to pay a Subscription to even use the Navigation?! To specify you can't even search an address unless you have the subscription....... You can look at the map, but thats it.........
Thats how it is in my wife's 2024 Escape. We got the e-mail and she said she only uses Car Play and Google maps

I have never had an issue as long as you update the offline maps when in a new area and have Wi-Fi or cell coverage to download load them.
