Hey what gives? I have a 2019 Ranger. I thought Ford made Sync a free thing. I just got a postcard for the new Sync update process. Maybe my subscription ran out? But if so why not a notice in Feb which was the time of purchase? $199 for 5 years? And $40 annually for USB ? Can someone explain this to me before none of my stuff works, or I give them money I don’t need to? Thanks in advance. Larry

Is this for SYNC or is it for the maps updates for your NAV system.

yeah, Im not paying for Nav updates when waze and google maps update daily for free. I can’t believe manufacturers even charge for Nav as option when it’s readily available to anyone with a phone (which is everyone) for free.

You don't have to update Sync to keep using it. If you chose to update the Sync maps, you can go to the Ford web site and enter your VIN and download for free. You can chose to have them send you a map update on a USB stick for $40 if you don't want to go the free download route.

There is a Sync update that updates the operating system that is also a free download or via WiFi. You don't have to update that either if you don't want to.

Thanks everyone for the input. Yes in the going on 4 years I’ve had the truck I have only tried to use the Ford Nav one time and it was such a hassle getting the locational data input, I stopped and used my iPhone. Use my phone almost daily. What triggered my post was for 4 days in a row, the system would not load Apple CarPlay. That made me nervous that maybe there was a connection? I was afraid it was all the Ford Sync system and it could cause issues like I was experiencing and I was afraid that it might be the end of remote start just as winter was coming on?. Seems like it is just nav, and if that is the case no big deal. I probably will do the download myself and try to keep it up to date even though I prefer phone based nav. Thanks again. This group is the best! Larry

I was able to download the 1.8gb sync 3 update and the 11.8gb maps update. Instructions say to do the sync 3 first then the maps. PDF found on Ford download website

Now to try and install

Mine is also gong on four years of ownership

That is for map updates only.…. You only get a limited smount of map updates before they start charging for them.
