If you’re in an area with a lot of rodents and you’re closing off the cabin air intake because they’re already a problem, I recommend doing the vents. Removing the rear seats is easy and you only need a bit more hardware cloth.
Ah perhaps, I do have a lot of hardware cloth leftover. It’s just a matter of learning how to access those vents I suppose

I have a SuperCab so my rear seats are different than yours. Are they visible when you fold the back seat forward?

I don’t believe so, I’ll take a closer look tomorrow.
I’ve seen conflicting posts about accessing the cabin air intake, can I just pop the plastic to remove the cowl? Or do I really need to take the windshield wipers off

Just pop the passenger side of the cowl... Here's a pic of the openings meshed over. These are lawn mower filters with the filter material removed, and mesh overlaid, then held in place with auto black adhesive tape. A 5 pack of filters for $8 at Amazon. I ruined the first one before figuring out how to remove the filter material - Hint:- use a razor knife and be patient. I formed the rubber adhesive tape over the back edge of the filter, and pressed them into place. The frame is not a friction fit by themselves, so an adhesive is needed to insure they stay in place. The tape stays in place once you press it into place.

This wasn't my idea. A forum member put me on to this method.

Or simply secure the mesh in place with aluminum duct tape. It is a tight space, just take your time.

Here's my air intake. Mesh simply wrapped around the intake opening.

And finally follow this link to see the rear cabin vents sealed off.

I removed and reinstalled the vents from inside the cabin. Doors close a little tight, and folks worried about airbag pressure... I figure the pressure will exit through the AC vents.

At any rate the critters have no entry into my truck. And my road noise is less too!

I have mice in my truck. Just wondering if anyone else has the problem and a possible solution.

I have had them in my air intake box and my headliner.

I have traps all around my truck and one inside on the floor in the back seat. So far I have trapped 3 mice in my truck and just 1 outside the truck.

I have a 2016 explorer right next to it in the garage and have never had a mouse in it.

there must be a problem or very easy access for them in the Ranger.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Buy a bag of cotton balls and a couple of bottles of peppermint essential oil. A couple of drops of the oil on the cotton balls and then hide them in and around the truck. I had mice living under the back seat the smell made them abandon my truck. I also liberally sprinkle the battery blanket, they seem to like it there until they smell the peppermint.

There's other threads about this, some showing ways to put wire mesh over the vent openings under the cowling.

I've found that mothballs or peppermint aren't very effective, but others have had luck with it. I have some of the peppermint pouches in the glove box and spray peppermint around the cowling, but still had mine. I have some wire mesh to install, but haven't done it yet. It's on my list, as I've had mice in the cabin.
