I replaced both headlight assemblies in my 4G Ranger for ~$40! $20 each. It can and should be done.Because they know the plastic lens will be cracking and hazing so bad by then that you just about need to replace the whole assembly anyway. Engineered to fail is a real thing.
Not saying lights shouldn't be replaced every once in a while, but on a 5G Lariat you are looking at MSRP of $3,333.34 for the pair. And I thought the HID lights on my Focus were bad at $1,819.05 for the pair.I replaced both headlight assemblies in my 4G Ranger for ~$40! $20 each. It can and should be done.
The steel transmission pan with a drain plug $39.
And this is a primary reason I prefer my 4G over my 5G. It is much less expensive to maintain.Not saying lights shouldn't be replaced every once in a while, but on a 5G Lariat you are looking at MSRP of $3,333.34 for the pair. The Bed Lighting is not on the Parking Light circuit, it shares the circuit with the Puddle Lamps (on the mirrors) known as perimeter lighting (entry/exit)OK, for all you FORSCAN gurus. Has anyone found a setting to have the bed lights NOT turn on with the parking lights come on when you unlock the truck or open the doors? The parking lights coming on for a while is fine but why the bed lights. With my OEM halos I just pulled the bulbs, but I just hanged my CHMSL to a new smoked LED one and I don't want to clip wires. I just wa.t the bed lights to work with the squid launcher button.
No "silent mode" is not it. It disables all lights when you open the doors (dome, parking, everything). I just want to take the bed lights out of that curcuit. I have silent mode turned on on my truck, but the only menu item I have in my IPC is to activate or deactivate it. Nothing to select which lights are affected.The Bed Lighting is not on the Parking Light circuit, it shares the circuit with the Puddle Lamps (on the mirrors) known as perimeter lighting (entry/exit)
It appears you are looking to obtain (Dark Mode) when this is set it gives you a extra IPC selectable mode and when selected the lights do not illuminate.
See Post #1 (Wiki) it appears this is what you are seeking. Dark Car Mode (Aka Police Mode or Silent Mode)

I'll give it a try and keep my fingers crossed. I have an XLT, so no puddles. Besides I have the mid-range Clearview mirrors, that's not a problem. If this doesn't work I will just live with it, as I'm not going to cut into my wiring. Just thought if there was a setting I could change. These trucks have so many things controlled by multiple inputs into the PCM, It's hard to tell what is controlling what when.Give this a try:
Now as I stated above. the BCM uses the Puddle Lamp circuit and ties it into the Bed Lighting
There is one setting that I found that may do what you want, its worth a try, but note this also affects the Puddle Lamps (If you have them) so this setting will also tie in the Bed Lighting
Puddle Lamp Configure:
726-62-02 - xxxx-xxxx-x1xx
0=Default
1=Override
Sorry but the As-Built Database is not always clear on what a setting does so its try it and see.
Your truck should be set to Default as (OEM)
If that does not work we can dig deeper or possibly reroute a wire off of the switch and get in on a separate power circuit that the BCM is not trying to (auto control)
I dug a little deeper of the Cargo Light control:I'll give it a try and keep my fingers crossed. I have an XLT, so no puddles. Besides I have the mid-range Clearview mirrors, that's not a problem. Is the switch a momentary closed while pressed, or like the hazard switch that toggles the switch state when pressed? I'm guessing a momentary closed, since if you drive with it on the bed lights turn off. If that is the case, a small controller that toggles the state of a relay when a momentary closed signal is detected may be the best option, redirect the switch from the BCM to the controller, give the controller an input 12V source and ground., and redirect the bed lights from the circuit with the puddle lights to the new controller.I dug a little deeper of the Cargo Light control:
BCM supplies power to the Cargo Switch, when the BCM sees the switch is closed, it sends a CAN Bus signal to power the Puddle Lamp circuit, the same circuit that is (Entry / Exit) auto function and includes the cargo lights - the auto function comes from the door lock / ajar signals, this is how that switch is by-passed - separate power circuit
So there is not an easy by-pass without rewiring the cargo lighting as from the factory switch its Can Bus controlled.
Hopefully the Forscan option will work for you.
Forscan will not let me make that change. I guess I'll just need to get use to itI dug a little deeper of the Cargo Light control:
