The Porsche guy at work swears by this. Anyone ever use it in our Ranger? It couldn’t hurt for the auto start/stop and cold starts? Just trying to run the truck till the rust kills it, not the engine. Or transmission

When I had my TDi for 200k miles I used their oil every once in a while when it was on sale, and the same with the diesel additive. I didn’t notice a difference but also didn’t have any problems.

Personally I don't believe in engine oil additives. High quality full syn changed regularly has worked for me for a long time. Additives probably don't hurt anything.....except your wallet.

This ain't the 70s anymore. Modern oils as they are now are all you need, just keep up with the change intervals (never ending debate over duration) and you're basically set. Oils have enough additives in them already.

Switch to high mileage grade oil around 70-100k Miles if anything.

As for start/stop, there are numerous ways to disable it.

Oil Additive
Ever watch The Motor Oil Geek on YouTube? He covers some of this, oil additives in general and backs it with testing. I don’t use additives, have never had an oil related issue with this truck or any car! Keep your oil clean and change it no more the 5k. Use a synthetic too. I’ve used Mobil 1 for over 30 years. Good luck with your decision

Yes, like pressing the Auto start/stop off button in the center of the console. This is now part of my pre-flight check.

Oh man I didn’t mean to stir the shit pot.
I was just curious because he said others additives didn’t seem to do much but swears in can tell after he puts it in.

Side question, I brought it to a ford dealership and they use the synthetic blend. At 50k miles, think it is alright to switch to the full synthetic now that I am going to do them myself?

You can switch between semi and full synthetic as often as you want to...won't hurt anything at all.
Can even go back to dino oil and switch back and forth. The main item is to stick to a routine of changing oil at regular intervals.
Even regular dino oils have changed over the years, and do not need any additives.
Just stick to the weight and rating the vehicle requires. Any quality 5w30 synthetic will work.
I may get criticized for doing it, but a few oil changes ago I switched from the brand name's syn to the Costco/Kirkland Synthetic in my Ranger and wife's Subi Outback.....costs almost half of the "brand name" syn's and works just as well....change every 5000 miles.

Here is my 70k oil analysis

Attached is my oil analysis at 70k
I couldn't see the elements checked. I believe main and wrist pin bearing metals are a sign of wear protection. Maybe ferrous traces for cylinder wall wear.

Other than this data I don't know how anyone could tell if an additive was doing any good.
I've heard/read urban legends and claims about additives fixing oil burning at the rings and valve seals, improving power by valve cleaning etc. Snake oil wishful thinking in my mind. The engine is too far gone for a cheap fix.

As mentioned in many threads here, good quality oil (syns are proven to have less ASTM four ball wear than mineral), and frequent oil changes will prevent these types of problems for up to 200K miles.

Buy the correct oil for your use case and don't worry about trying to mess it up with additional additives, since oils have additives.

This was the conclusion of the video above. Moreover, some of the additives seemed to negatively mix with the additives already in the oil.

I know, I've seen the video. I've met the guy a few times as well.

For the record, Porsche doesn’t approve ANY oil additives.
