I just completed an engine oil change and transmission fluid change. I let the truck sit overnight and again pumped out 7.5 Quarts of fluid. This is exactly the same amount of fluid I removed on the first fluid change when I let the truck sit overnight. On my 2nd fluid change I did not let the truck sit overnight and only managed to remove ~6 quarts.

For the last 7K miles my transmission has been behaving normally.

It was late in the evening so I stopped before refilling the transmission. But LubeGard Platinum is going back in with the new fluid this morning. I think I'll be over 90% fresh fluid when this 3rd pass of fluid change is completed later today.

Thanks again to those who helped me save my transmission.

I was finally able to get the fill tube installed and put in the Lube Guard Platinum [I'm the OP].

Gotta say, don't really notice a difference after a few days. Still get hard shifts when the engine is cold. Also, occasional (not sure how to describe this) slow shifts.

I had my transmission rebuilt by my dealer about a year ago (I think it was May or June of last year).

But, at least this project is done, and hopefully it will make maintenance easier in the future.

I'll also say that I had a real hard time getting the 15 oz of fluid out of the transmission. The hoses that came with the pump were just ever so slightly short. Or at least that is my theory on why I had issues.

Getting the fill tube on wasn't too difficult, but man there isn't much room down there!

I added the red bottle Friday, I can’t say I’m unimpressed but also can’t say it isn’t placebo.

Just curious but what exactly did the dealer do/replace when they did the “rebuild “

Did it shift like this before the pan/fluid/dipstick swap?

yes. But I didn't do a pan or fluid swap, just pulled out 15 oz of fluid and replaced with Lube Guard. (oh, and added the new dipstick of course)

With that said, I believe (can't be certain that it wasn't a placebo affect) that right after the transmission work by the dealer it was better, but within a couple months I was noticing the harder shifts again.

Pretty sure the recommended LG Platinum is in a gray bottle.

How many miles on the transmission since the rebuild?

I first noticed my transmission acting up at 5,000 miles. Very subtle but real, and by 12,000 miles I was very concerned. The shifts were still not terrible 90% of the time, but every now and then I's get a real banger! By 18.000 miles I was ready to unload the truck.

In a last ditch effort to avoid selling, I pumped out 7.5 quarts of fluid, replaced with new fluid, and installed LubeGard Platinum. 99% better, but still had a slight roughness when shifting from 3 to 4. Drove it 3,000 miles and performed another fluid change. Transmission was better yet, adding another 6oz of LubeGard Platinum, and the transmission shifted perfectly, just like when I first bought it new!

7,000 miles later (25,000 miles on the truck) it was still shifting fine, I performed an engine oil change, and sucked out another 7.5 quarts of transmission fluid. Drove the truck 75 miles this morning without a hiccup, this was urban, then interstate, then country roads back to home.

Perfect!

I used the last of my ULV with this transmission change. Gonna be purchasing a couple of cases when it goes on sale again at NAPA. I am hoping to get 25K miles between transmission fluid changes, but at the very first sign of trouble I will be changing the fluid again... and adding LubeGard Platinum.

This worked for me.

I replaced the Filter and added LubeGuard yesterday. The truck shifts a lot smoother. I’m at 86k miles. I also tow a lot. I sucked out 5qts a few weeks ago and replaced with fresh fluid. I was hoping between that and the fluid and filter change it would be mostly new fluid. The element in the filter was black. The fluid was very dark as well. I’m also running the Livernois tune for the last 81k miles. Probably should have changed the fluid and filter 40k miles ago lol.

The red is also recommended but not considered “as advanced”
Mine didn't like the red as much as it liked the platinum. I tried them both before making the platinum recommendation.

Well, I say I tried them both. What actually happened is I ran out of platinum and had the red on hand that I was using in my Honda cars. Wasn't near as smooth as the platinum, so I used up the rest of the red in the Honda's and eventually switched them over to that Platinum as well. My Accord is already on trans #3 at almost 300k, but it is the known shit transmission. The Acura is approaching 200k on the original.

I actually read your post on another forum about this, it’s why I tried it.
