Got some good news - the parts have been shipped, should be at my dealer tomorrow or Wednesday. So I should have *my* truck soon :)
So the question that remains, is the smell gone? Because my Ranger has that burning/melting crayon smell that just makes me sick after a few minutes. Built 3/27/19.

I never smelled anything, but I only drove mine about 15 miles pre-purchase :(

Ah, I gotcha. I know you’re in Florida but if you don’t mind, do you notice a smell after putting the heat on for a minute or two? I’m wondering if these new blowers produce the same smell or not.

That smell is from lithium grease on a heating element used when one side is calling for heat and the other side is calling for cool. Mine has it too, and they aren’t going to replace the heating element unless you complain about the smell. Mine is almost gone now at 18700 miles.

So, I gave this a try in the service loaner, and didn't smell anything. My truck will be ready today so I'll try it as well and let you know.

So I decided to be proactive and scheduled an inspection with my dealer before I received any letter or notice on Ford Pass. I took my Ranger in (purchased a month ago) and sure enough, it didn’t pass. Blower motor was built 7-12-19. The sad thing is, the service attendant told me it passed, but it was only when I asked for paperwork verification that she printed out, she realized it actually failed. They said it was okay to drive and that they’d call when the replacement arrived. So disappointed on many fronts...

Interesting. Thanks for that info. Just curious, how did they test it?

It’s important that you have one side set for heating and one set for ac before it will actually start to smell.

It kicks in under other circumstances, like heat when engine isn't hot. To me it just smells like heat strip burn off that always happens with new or long idle parts. (Other people may have other issues.) It seems to be lingering because in my temps they haven't stayed on very long at a time.

You know, I’m not entirely sure. The report I got back said “checked blower motor build date and found out it failed.” I’m going to assume they went by the manufacture date. I hope that helped!

The "test" is an eye test. Can they read the date code? What does it say? Is it in the defective range?

I don't think my truck ever ran long enough to develop the smell. I wasn't actually able to take delivery until after the recall was completed. I have a little over 300 miles on it now and haven't noticed any smell. I've ran the heat and AC too.

I saw another thread where they said there was lithium grease on the heating element in the dash that shouldn't be there. They cleaned and replaced it, customer verified success.

I am too lazy to search for it though, and mine seems to have stopped for the most part.
