Hello,

My 2019 Ranger is struggling with the bucking issue. I replaced the DPFE sensor and I was not so fortunate. Seems I have to replace/rebuild the transmission. I am just out of power train warranty and have been told by Ford they will cover a percentage of the cost. Getting a Ford diagnositics on Monday so want to decide this weekend to fully go through with this or not.

My concern now is if it is worth it to get this fixed or should I just walk away from this truck. Has anyone had any issues with their new transmission? The price I'm going to possibly pay on the higher end could get me into a Maverick or might even lease and wait out another option. Looking forward to hearing your guys feedback.

Outside of this issue I've enjoyed the truck and really only have three cons. I don't have a physical button for dual climate, mic gain is terrible with carplay basically unusable (have to disconnect and use bluetooth for calls), and my adaptive cruise control doesn't have full stop & go capability.

The transmission in my 2022 was replaced with a new one under warranty. It was replaced in July of 2024 so it has all the latest updates. It drives flawlessly and better than the original transmission ever did. I’m totally satisfied with the outcome.

If ford is going to cover some, get the brand new one with updated internals. I would only do this if you want to keep the truck long term.

Would asking for the refurbished transmission have the updated internals? When I called my three local dealerships they mentioned ~6k to rebuild mine or for one extra grand to get a refurbished replacement.

I would spend $15 and dump a bottle of Lubegard Platinum in it and see if it helps.

Might help, might not. Worth a shot IMO.

Are those figures including labor? A brand new updated transmission is $5900 msrp. Can buy them online for around $5000

Until today, I would have said no, it might not be worth it.

I had my transmission replaced about a year ago (opted for a brand new factory fresh updated one) and in the past 6 months have had bucking/surging issues. I thought it might be the transmission but took it in and they read misfire on cylinder 4 and found scorched plugs. I replaced all 4 and the coil packs as well. Engine ran a little steadier but the bucking/surging got worse. Did some forum perusing and read about the DPFE sensor issues (bucking/surging at light throttle at low to medium speed) so figured I would try replacing it.

I rode around town for a couple of hours and the bucking/surging completely eliminated. Not only that, the transmission is so silky smooth that it's like driving an entirely different vehicle. I have a 2019 Ranger and the transmission has been twitchy since the day I bought it. I had it in for the TSB related to cold start and surging and of course the original transmission failed at around 68k (or there around). It has never run this smoothly.

It's only been a day but if it continues to run like this then yes, I would say it's worth it. A year ago, I was pretty pissed off for having to pay for a new transmission that was barely out of warranty but over all, this has been a solid truck.

A couple of additional things to note, the new transmission is warrantied for 3 years and an absurd number of miles so not sure if that moves the needle for you. I have put about 10k on it in a years time.

The 2WD transmission should be part # KB3Z7000A. The 4WD part # is KB3Z7000B.
Google the part number and you’ll see several sources to buy new online.
EDITED to correct part numbers

Uh, dealer put a new “A” in my truck and I can guarantee it’s 4WD
EDIT: correction, you are correct. After looking at my repair order My 4WD received a “B” transmission . Sorry for the confusion.
