I called the helpline to trouble shoot why I cannot connect to the truck with the Fordpass App.
The end solution/problem was that the "modem" was not working and would need to be replaced
Can anyone tell me where the " modem" is and maybe how to get at it?
TIA

Up under the passenger side of the dash. Module with the small antenna wire plugged into it.

While I was changing the cabin air filter I saw a box that was behind the glove box to the right of the filter location. Not sure if that is it. Part number on it is KT1T-14G087-FX

Should have an IMEI number printed on it. That part number matches though, should be it.

Before you pull the trigger and replace the TCU.
What T-Shoot steps were done over the phone for that determination?

I am not convinced , unless they had you hook up scan tool and did wire checks.
Did they have you check for the ESN display on the Sync Screen? Or pull fuses for 5 minutes?

didnt do any of that! They checked the software verson and some other stuff that I cannot remember. They did say they were unable to connect after restarting. I may call them again to go through thier TS procedure and ask about what you said.......

Just went through this last week. Mine was not showing any information on the sync display as if my modem was not working. I got my battery tested and come to find out it was at 58% health. Had it replaced and it is working fine now. I also noticed my auto/stop/start was acting strange. I usually forget to turn it off till it stops the engine. I noticed it was not stopping the engine and figured it was the cold. I am not saying this is you issue but something to look at.

Try pulling fuse #9 (BCM) fuse panel (cabin) Drivers Side - Pull for 5 minutes and reinstall.
Fuse #9 powers the TCU.

Plus ensure that you are on the most current Sync Version: Build 23188, all other builds below this version have been problematic.
If it needs updated - use the Ford Site & USB method - Do NOT use Automatic (OTA) updates that creates issues.

Example: You should be viewing (ESN) on this screen (Borrowed Pic)

The above is the first place to start.
The TCU closely ties into the APIM (Sync) and it is just (Power & Ground) and 2 Antenna cables
The CAN communication (HS-4) ties in the data transfer side between the GWM - APIM & TCU
That ESN is displayed on the Sync Screen from the TCU (HS-4) network to the APIM.

So, it boils down to TCU not transmitting the data or the APIM not registering and receiving the data

On these Rangers a lot of strange stuff happens when the battery gets low...like my passenger side touch locks quit working but drivers' side did work. I checked the battery from someone else's recommendation, and it was in the 50% level, so I charged it and all has been well since. I did buy a replacement battery later as it was having to be charged far too often...I went up to a 700CCA.

This was my next step if the battery replacement did not fix it. I think the battery was out long enough for the modem to reset so probably did the exact same thing.
