Has anybody pulled the taillight to see if a ball mount is already there?
I just looked and there doesn’t appear to be enough room back there but I could be wrong.
I hope I’m wrong.
I'm thinking it's not mounted in the taillight. It's just like that many others that have been discussed on this forum. Mount just below the cable clip and then the other end on the first bolt of the hinge of the tailgate.Has anybody pulled the taillight to see if a ball mount is already there?

Dang, just head to your Ford Dealer and have them look it up for you.Nothing because that site only works in the US.
Those are the real part numbers. If you can pull it up on parts.ford.com then can order them if available. It would be great to see a factory solution. I hope somebody comes up with a real part number.
There's only 2 bolts in there and they're for the tie down brackets. In the video I posted above the ball mount is red and so is the truck. I would guess that if it was included it would come black, not color coated. If this one is for the Ranger maybe there's an adaptor that ties into one of those bolts? I'd call the dealer before ordering to verify.I helped my dad install the equivalent kit for his Super Duty. If I remember correctly, the "ball mount" you guys are referring to is included with the kit and it replaces a bolt down below the tail light somewhere. Very clean install when finished, you wouldn't know just by looking...with the exception of paint color. It's probably going to come in black.

Don't we need the 4(?) character prefix to denote what vehicle it's for? I don't want my dealer "accidently" ordering the part for the F-150.Those are the real part numbers. If you can pull it up on parts.ford.com then can order them if available.
While I can't speak for everyone, I prefer the design of the Ford part assuming it's just like what's pictured. I like the fact that the damper would be behind the tail light. If it's not, then I'd rather spend my money with @TheMarkP .Google the part # (99406A10) and it comes up in a ton of places as a F150 tail gate damper.
I looked at the detail on Fords part site for the Ranger and it looks EXACTLY like the F150 part.
Could be one of those whoops that happen in parts catalogs between platforms that are similar and they cut and paste from one catalog to another and something like this gets lost in the translation.
Also, if this has been available for the Ranger, how come Ford hasn't been shouting it from the roof tops or at least mentioning it somewhere?
This is correct. The "99406A10" is just the base number for a tailgate damper. They hide the entire number to help prevent shopping around. It'll more than likely end up being KB3Z-99406A10-A considering there's no L/R and it's the first version. That's just an assumption though.Don't we need the 4(?) character prefix to denote what vehicle it's for? I don't want my dealer "accidently" ordering the part for the F-150.
I prefer this one too, hidden in the tail lights, but it looks like it's only for the F 150 unless a dealer can confirm this. If this were for both (Ranger & F150) I'm sure Ford would've had this in their parts inventory from the beginning. While I can't speak for everyone, I prefer the design of the Ford part assuming it's just like what's pictured.
