ooof this just happened to you?? Dang. This seems fairly rare for the 2.3L in the Ranger.
yup just happened. the only other problem i have had with the truck was for about 20k miles (60-80k) had a hesitation and weird shifting, finally at about 80k it popped an egr differential pressure code, replaced the differential pressure sensor and was fine after that.

as for the head gasket, the block has an imperfection on the deck surface that the head gasket appeared to finally lost a seal against. thankfully its a company truck so my company is going rounds with ford about it, the local dealer doesnt want to deck the block, they want to replace the long block. a testament to regular synthetic oil changes, crosshatch was visible in all cylinders and even cylinder 1 with the hg leak was within 2% on a compression test cold.

I just talked to the owner of a '19 XLT yesterday, he said he had over 130K on the truck with very few issues.

133K as well...if you don't count replacing the entire tranny then I've had zero issues...

That doesn't count, it's just maintenance.. :) Transmission issues seem to be afflicting every brand. We can thank the CAFE regs mandating higher and higher fuel mileage for the ridiculous number of gears we have that seem to be leading to problems everywhere. As to this thread, I am approaching 79k on my '19 Lariat. I was lucky, only the main control board/valves had to be replaced to resolve my shifting issues.

So then you know you have 16K left before you need "maintenance" on your tranny?

Maybe you misunderstood my comment. It seems that quite a few of us have had transmission issues, so that is why I said the replacement is now maintenance. It was humor.. I thought anyway. I am hopeful that since my work has been done my only maintenance on the transmission will be fluid changes. Since this was done as part of the repair I am good on this for a while. Enjoy your Ranger! I am very happy with mine. Other than my recent transmission work I have had not had any issues with the truck.

Yes, I'm very happy with mine at this time...for now, I still have 2 years left on my replacement warranty...everything else has been working flawlessly...knock on wood...still waiting for that click click under the dash...

as an update in this thread -- i'm at nearly 76k on my 2019. 99% of the time she's smooth as butta! the other 1% of the time are some weird bumpies and my wife and i have jokingly started saying, "eeeeasy girl, easy!" and gently patting the dash.

it's worked so far. only issues i've had was the bucking/surging epidemic (solved by a then-$30 part, so i don't consider that major in any way), and a warped HVAC box/blend door that Ford was kind enough to resolve when it was out of warranty.

so all is well for me.

Im on the 75k trans swap too. Standard maintenance item. Apparently our spark plugS last longer.
Battery's a close second...

Ford new 80K miles maintenance schedule:

1-replace transmission
2-replace battery
3-replace DPFE
4-replace HVAC
5-replace spark plugs or engine
6-I'm sure I forgot something

I have only done oil, plugs every 30k, and one transmission in 85k. Battery is still kicking. Now that I say that it will blow up and light the whole truck on fire. ?

Higher fuel mileage means you spend less money on fuel and use less fuel, right? Using less fuel decreases demand, which also lowers the cost of, fuel, right? These transmissions can be built correctly for the price being charged, but decisions are made to NOT build them correctly and still collect premium money for it. CAFE regs have zero impact on the quality of what is sold and the lack of accountability the manufacturers choose to embrace.
