I Gutted the inside of my truck to change the carpet to a rubber mat, (a whole different story) while I was at it, I figured I would Kilmat everywhere the factory sound deadener was missed, when I pulled off the rear panel behind the back seat, I found one vent open, one vent with this black foam on it. I looks like it is supposed to be there, but that does not make sense, unless Ford added it for some reason, maybe the exhaust noise? Or something to do with wind buffeting through partially open windows, if it's there on purpose, who knows what Ford was trying to fix.

Or maybe it's just packing foam when the supplier shipped them, which really doesn't make sense either.

So, anybody else get a look behind the rear seat panel? If so, does your vent have foam on it? I figured I would ask before I remove it, it just makes no sense

I think someone may be able to reach up through the slot in the panel and feel if has foam, if anyone is willing, thanks in advance!

Maybe I go look at one on a used car lot and fondle the slot to see if there is any soft foam.

Oh boy, sure could have fun with that one, I can hear it now "man arrested for trying to fondle a strangers slot in search of something soft"

I know my previous F150 had foam over the rear vents.
If I remember right, it was to damper for road and exhaust noises.
You have reminded me to check these as I feel I have more road noise from the back.

Was it over both vents?

Thanks for the response!

When I routed cables through the vent on the driver side, I didn't pull the trim panels off so the vents weren't visible...but I didn't feel like I encountered resistance from foam...just the rubber flaps...

2023 Super cab - similar to what you show - same vent on Drivers side, solid on passenger side, but no foam, just a solid molded part.

Wow, it looks like Ford is all over the place on this, you have a Super cab, so maybe they reduce it to the one vent with only two doors, or they changed somewhere along the way from the 2019 which had both open, thanks, good info, I wonder if a 2023 Crew Cab still has only one?

Maybe we have another deleted item

I've seen pictures of others withe the same vent blocked.

I actually blocked both rear vents in my truck. I'd rather have them blocked than have mice issues.

2020 SCab - both vents open from the factory

My 2023 XLT is the same…solid plastic on the passenger side and plastic vent with flaps on the driver side. FWIF I applied sound deadener right over the solid plastic piece since it serves no purpose. The only purpose is possibly a Ford cost-cutting measure.
