Not really, I think the damper is better suited for that, I'm certainly not going to let it drop on its own. The previous lift weight was just over 42lbs. with the storage unit loaded. It's now just 18lbs. It's not as much as I'd hoped it would be, but it is a great improvement. I can one-hand it with no strain. It feels about the same as before I added the storage unit.
Dammit, it's doubled in price since I last bought it.

If they keep listening to the masses the 7G Ranger will have 6 full doors and a 2 and a half foot bed ... I can hardly wait...
and 3 rows of seats in a quote... Pickup truck.

True enough - just look at the Jeep Grand Wagoneer - based on the RAM pickup truck platform. So, yeah, a pickup with three rows of seats is not out of the question.

It ain’t right but it’s not impossible. ?

I remember those days!
My 64 Ford Pickup had two nobs for the radio and one speaker in the dash if I remember correctly. That was my first vehicle and I wish I still had it. I can't remember how much the tail gate weighed but I am sure I opened and closed it a million times loading and unloading my dirt bike. Oh that's why my arms are so strong LOL.

Good points.
But me? I throw a milk crate in the bed for when I have to do those things.
(This fancy stuff is just more things to break)
Just my opinion.
Frankly, compared to the lifter problems I always worried about with those engines, potential multipart lift gate problems seemed like small potatoes… ?

I finally got the time today to make and install proper clips for the EasyLift tailgate lift assist. They're designed for full size trucks, but if anyone is interested in fitting one to their Ranger, here's how I did it. I used stainless M8 rivet nuts, a couple of 40mm M8 cap screws and shaped a couple of clips from a polyethylene cutting board. There's just enough room behind the taillight panel for the lower rivet nut to fit within the contours of back side of the taillight, and the upper one is in the open space behind it. When the tailgate's down there's a LOT of pressure exerted on the those clips.

The end of the torsion bar that's in the tailgate will slide up & down a little bit as you open & close the tailgate, so I added a piece of cutting board to that end to act as a slippery skid so it wouldn't rub through the storage box powder coat. I heated the bar with a propane torch, then pressed it into the piece of cutting board till it was about Âľ burried. It's on there nice & tight. It would normally rub against the inside surface of the tailgate's bedside wall.

I bought the EasyLift for $40 delivered from Walmart, I had all the other parts on hand. I'd like it to be a heavier bar to reduce the lift weight a little bit more, but it's much better than it was.

I'm still contemplating a damper. ?

Really bad drawing of the inside of the tailgate where the torsion bar sits:

I just wanted to chime in on the 6 door, having a fairly big family would be pretty easy if you had America on wheels ?
A few fords have been customized and dodge too.
Idk I don’t hate it ? two captain chairs up front and two bench seats means all four kids and two dogs seated comfortably and a truck bed… it’s almost the truck I’ll need if the wife and I have another kid ?

Please ignore the squat tho, I’d rather have it with a slight rake for towin.

A six door Ranger I wouldn’t hate it but you might need a limo license to drive one of these crazy things? oh and probably keep a spare transmission in the bed?

Hey, it's a Ford, it's Race Red, and I suppose it's a supercab of sorts with the little suicide doors.

Great for those dump run tailgate parties for the entire neighborhood! =D

The last little super cab situation made me fall of the couch ? like you know what’s better than three doors on each side…. 3 and a half doors on each side…. Why not just make it a 8 door? … what!? 8 doors? 8doors well that’s just ridiculous! ?
That last row is definitely where you make the ones you like the least sit
