Too bad they couldn't just make a transmission like the old days where it did transmission stuff like change gears.
Oh noes, these days it must have more computing power and complexity than a Saturn V Rocket, after all it just had to carry men to the moon. A transmission has to take you to the shops and back.

Glad it's fixed, but 10K seems high. Levittown has that new trans listed for about 5K, so another 5K labor?

So about 300 miles in - mostly highway - and the adaptive shift is finally starting to calm down and shift very similar to how it was prior to the transmission going out.

I do notice that, as the majority of my travel is on the freeway, my part throttle shifting strategy seems to be a bit slower coming along than the mid to upper throttle/speed range is.

All in all happy panda. :)

If my trans went and the shop told me $10k to fix I'd leave the truck there and forget about it, buy something used. Maybe show up in the middle of the night and put boots on the wheels just out of spite.

I have decided if I ever need to get the trans replaced I'm going to take it to local transmission shop that has a good reputation and has been around forever rather than a dealer. I'm sure it still won't be cheap but I'm pretty sure it will get done right.
You could get a custom built Suncoast 10R80 for much less than 10K with Raybestos clutch packs and the valve body upgrades. There are other vendors out there but ten grand is a heck of a mental barrier to spending.

Mine was replaced one year ago (Ford dealership) with a new crate trans and total was around $5800...that includes labor plus brake/coolant flush...

Remember everyone I was out of pocket "only" 1200.

Geico Mechanical Breakdown Insurance FTW.

I don't know why but I get the sneaking suspicion that they marked up this work to make bank.

PLUS - again I am getting a 3 year 36k warranty on the transmission instead of the usual 1 year 12k I believe.

So all in all I'm still not in bad shape.

Mine came with 3 year as well but with unlimited miles...

Not to de-rail, but how many miles do you have now on the new tranny?
It was replaced at 95K...I'm at 120K = 25K smooth so far with rare bump now and then...normal for this tranny in best of conditions...

And all that engineering was done on a Slide Rule. No calculators, and computers were massive and SLOW.

Yep, a lot of 'professionals' from mechanics to health care will inflate the price when they know insurance will be paying.
