Hey everyone. About a month ago I bought a 2019 ranger from a Ford dealership as is. I didn't discover until I went to car wash at the driver's side floor mat and carpeting was soaked. I tried it all out and was hoping that maybe it was a spill while they were detailing the car.
Once it was fully tried out, I tested the AC to make sure that there was no internal leak of condensation. I saw that the AC was leaking on the outside of the vehicle.
After going to the drive-thru car wash I didn't notice a slight pit-up quarter on floorboard again under the carpet. I tried it out again drove the car for a couple more weeks and we have had no rain either and it stayed dry. We had some rain this weekend and today I discovered the driver side carpet soaked again. I pulled up some of the carpet and tried to do my own water test with a garden hose while my daughter was in the car looking for these. No luck. I'm not sure what to look at next. Any recommendations?

UPDATE: it's the AC dripping into the cabin. I tested it out and pulled up the carpet and watched it running down the side. So frustrating. I saw a video where someone said it's a complicated fix and you have to lower the trans to get to this. Anyone familiar with this? Is there another fix that's not so complicated?

Pull the cowling cover and see if you can find some entry points. When you say "as-is," what does that mean?
I'd run a Carfax to see if it has an accident history.

Carfax is clean. I bought it with no warranty from the dealer so they sold its as is. I'll try pulling the cowling and see if I see anything but I used a hose on the the windshield and cowling and nothing came in. I did use my wiper spray alot today and noticed that they were not spraying but more like pissing out and maybe under the cowling. I kept them on for a while seeing if they would clear themselves out but no luck. I'm wondering if maybe that has something to do with it. I'll have to check this tomorrow as well

Good news on the Carfax. This sounds like a fair amount of water, not like an amount that would get past door seals.

Have you seen this YouTube video?

You are. a life saver! I have had this problem since moving to the PNW, and thought that the issue was the persistent seattle rain. My prinsu had a small leak, but I fixed that months ago and my carpets have only become more and more mildewy. I need to show this video to my ford dealer so they can finally start taking me seriously and fix my carpets!!! Thank you!

Yes I did see that video. I don't think it's the AC because I also put some dry paper towels under the carpet pad up by the rear of the center console to test to see if it got wet with the AC on full blast for a while and it was bone dry and water was dripping down under the truck. I'm trying to find a video on how to remove the windshield cowls. I'm definitely no mechanic so it'll definitely be a challenge lol

A number of people on the forum have removed the cowl cover to mouseproof the Ranger's hvac vents. So it has been r&r'ed successfully. Haven't done it myself, but clogged drains under the cowl vent cover are a common cause of cabin leaks in many different cars and trucks.

I will definitely try to remove them and see what's going on underneath.
Thanks for all your help and responses. I really appreciate it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Does the floor smell like wiper fluid/widex?

That happened on a '21 Lariat I had. There are two firewalls and the robot was drunk that day. They tried fixing from the outside and then told me they were going to have to pull the dash. I traded it in for a Tremor.

Hard to tell because it's really musty. I don't think so but then again I'm not sure what's in the reservoir. I'll have to check that out too

Hey, I am having the exact same problem with my 2021, and I just wanted to see if you had found a solution yet.

Water in the cab - known areas for leaks (Rainwater)
The door seals (weather strip)
The windshield adhesive sealant, more noted along the sides.

Condensate Drain (Leaks)

Clogged drain line (difficult to access) as it is above the transmission bell housing (buried)
when its clogged up, you will get (dump) out from the bottom of the HVAC box on turns, think pan full of water sitting on the floor (in a turn) momentum pushes it over the sides.
This is more noted on the passenger floorboard

The EVAP lines (insulation) wrapping - This is only noted on the Driver's Side as the EVAP lines are on the Driver's side.

Here is the SSM for that and the one referenced in the video

Drain.webp

The video points out (and the first I have seen) that another possible source for condensate draining into the cabin floor is (the best I can tell) from the video is that the drain tube does not stick out far enough and is backflowing into the cabin.

If you watch the show (Moonshiners) they use a Racoon Pecker for a reason to get proper flow into the jar

Now for your issue, it is possible that you may have leaves built up under the plastic cowl, limiting rainwater drain off, but that does not have anything to do with the (sealing) of the windshield and the water getting in.
