5 is on the lower side of full, 4 would be the max full, the way Ford did the stick is odd, 1 is overfull, 6 is really low, backwards in my opinion, 1 should be empty and 6 should be a higher fluid level, but, I wasn't going to change anything, so I copied it, backwards or not.
Oh for some reason I was misreading the optimum between 6/5 instead of 5/4.

Does it matter if the truck is running when checking? I figured OFF but I see the guy in the video was checking with it in idle.

I must be running and hot.

The text on the stick states MAINTAIN FLUID LEVEL BETWEEN 4-5 CHECK HOT IDLING IN PARK

It can be difficult to get it hot enough in cold weather!

You need to drive it enough to get it up to full temperature, then check it idling in park, the use of a scanner can give you the exact temperature.

I get up to 200 coolant temp. The banks gauge I use is supposed to add firmware for transmission temp this quarter.

Well since it's warm I beat it up for 20 minutes and rechecked. Was even a little lower. About 3/4 a quart brought it right up to 4.

Mike I don’t want to derail this thread on this but thought I’d ask before I go and create another thread. Have you or any others watching this sent their used transmission oil off to black stone for an analysis. Is there any beneficial info to getting a UOA on transmission being it can’t really get contaminated with fuel or antifreeze? Ive searched bob is the oil guy but have found nothing yet.

I myself have only done the engine oil, but that is an interesting idea, I wonder how well it can tell you whats going on.

And thanks to you we can all sniff for it now
Yes, add an addendum to the instructions....
"Be sure to sniff your stick monthly for odd smells" .

A few notes. It was cold and snowy, but I was indoors, though unheated and I did the install.

After having previously checked the fluid, I knew my plan. I pull the front right tire. It’s not necessary, but makes it very easy. Then I use a really long extension and flex for a socket with magnet to get the factory dipstick. I run it down to set it on the trans case, and then reach through the wheel well liner and put it on the cap. I did the same to new stick fitting. That makes it easy to remove and install.

For the tube, it just dropped right in. I used a short adjustable wrench through the wheel well to tighten it. The hardest part was getting the top bolt to start threading. Yes, I did leave the lower fitting loose until I got the top bolt in.

I had previously “adjusted” the wiring harness and AC line. My AC line did not have a bolt on a bracket I could see; just a plastic clip.

Here’s a few pictures of that, tools, and the install.

My fluid is low, and now I can check it easy. I have ordered stuff to change it. I’m at 31,000 miles mostly towing.

My reading led me to think both the stock and shallow PPE pans, and likely the Mishimoto, will all reduce temps about 10 degrees. The shallow has more fin area, so that probably makes up the difference. Since I will change fluid and filter often, I went shallow PPE, US made, and it’s on the way.

If not removing the tire, does it help any by turning the wheel all the way one direction or the other?

I turned mine all the way to the drivers side which opens up the rear part of the wheel well - that allows easier access I think.

Hey, first batch dipstick owners,

I have been trying to slowly hit up all the first batch group, if anyone wants a updated stick with the laser etch vs the electro etch, the difference is, it is clearer and darker/deeper, so it's easier to read the fluid level.

Let me know if you are interested, send me a message and include your address.

I will need your serial number, it's on the underside of the steel portion of the stick by the handle.

This is for serial numbers up to #60, with the exceptions of #38, 40, 45, 51, 53, 54. There is question about #55, whoever has that, I missed it in my build log, it should have the older stick, message me and we can figure it out.

I have a break in production, so this is a good time to get caught up with the updates.

Thanks everyone, let me know!!
