FWIW, I have used a thumb drive for music, and it would occasionally get corrupted and I'd have to reformat. Finally, the last time, it got bricked and I can't reformat. Now I've gone back to use my old ipod touch to play music.
Yup, re: bricking. Had that happen on the 2012 twice. Hasn't happened on my 2023s.

Also, yes, re: iPod Touch. I do the same listening to music/podcasts using it via BT.

Hmm. Never thought about using BT, but I have a short USB cable and just leave it plugged in laying in the tray under the console.

I have an original first gen iPhone that would be perfect for that.

I use an old 3g, have been using it as my IPod for years since my IPod classic died.
I am looking into a way to tap into the back of the Media Hub and extend a third USB port into the glovebox vs using one port and cabled into the glovebox, hidden except for the visible cord.
The problem is finding a data (y) connector or adapter that will work and keep the existing (2) ports open.
I will possibly have to splice something in, I would rather just find an adapter to do it but I have searched (not in-depth) for an option, no luck .
It’s not a big deal , just one of those things on my list of (want’s) and can it be done without errors

If he has the 501A package he should have ACC.

Depends on what package he has.
Not all Rangers have auto cruise control, but all Rangers have Pre-collision detection with auto emergency braking.
My point is that he DOESN'T have ACC. He has whatever tech package (301A? 302A? I don't remember) my 2019 has that used to have the front parking sensors in 2019 but didn't when he bought his. But that didn't stop his idiot dealer from telling him he had it. I even pointed out his lack of a radar unit.

Since I don't connect a phone for phone use, I use the BT connection for the iPods. Not sure all my iPods have BT capability (I still have two Classic 6th Gens that I use which don't!), but all the iPod Touch versions from Gen 2 on do. Works flawlessly.

The sales guy was loosely correct. It is a twin scroll design; two impellers in the same turbocharger. one supplies boost from idle to low rpm and the bigger one supplies the most boost. This keeps the cylinders boosted at all times for minimal lag in power, like a supercharger, but is more compact and is not mechanically driven.
So "Twin Scroll" probably precipitated to "Twin Turbo" in sales guy's mind.
That could have been it

Fun fact! The "HD" in HD Radio does not stand for hi- definition, it stands for "hybrid digital", which is roughly how they can get 3 or so different signals from one frequency

Learned that from my Radio Shack days working with an engineer who specialized in that stuff
Yes and that is why early HD radio sounded so BAD. Not sure how it sounds now as it seems to be less of a deal. It should be called BC or bad compression.

I've only been tangentially aware of it. Had no idea it was "hybrid digital" and not hi-def. I've never actually had access to any radio equipment that could pick it up, afaik.

Regardless of why, it doesn't seem to bode well for the technology.

MP3 is so old school, since having the Music.youtube app and being Y/T Premium (no ads)
so much better that messing with a thumb drive

spoken by someone who's never out of cell reception long enough for streaming services to run out of buffered content.

which is fine. but there's absolutely still a place for stored music.

FWIW, my 2012 F-150 FX4 had the HDD storage. You'd put a CD in to the CD player and there would be an option to rip it to the 200MB (I think) HDD. Came in very handy.

But with the ability to use the USB port with, for example, a SanDisk Ultra Fit mini flash drive with MP3 files on them (the 2012 could do this too, but reliably worked only with drives of 64GB or lower; my Ranger easily handles 256GB) I can't think of any reason a newer vehicle would have an HDD.
Yep. Help a guy start that on his 1998 Lincoln. Turns out he hated it. So much easier to find a big CD by album cover than searching with that old technology. Still , the warranty/ reliability of CD trays went up.

I'm not interested in paying Google for YT Premium. Or paying Spotify. Or paying Pandora.

Or dealing with dead reception areas (as @mtbikernate notes).

Since I already have my large collection of CDs ripped into MP3 format a thumb drive works well for me (and costs me virtually nothing). The only issue I've encountered is Ford's nanny system making it difficult to select MP3 music while driving....

If the issue is MP3 sound quality, well, being a partially deaf tanker means I'm long past hearing any lost audio quality....

So, to each his/her own, right? Yay for choices!

I use Plex Amp and then download my music to my phone and listen via AA app.
