Something to be aware of with these is you need to "see" the satellite for it to work. If you are in heavily wooded area, it may not get signal. Same would go for valleys, mountains, caves... We had one with us on a remote fishing trip over the summer and someone would have to stand on the rocks at the edge of the water, away from the trees, to get signal. Sometimes it took 30 minutes.
I suspect like your home satellites, it would also be affected by weather.
It's absolutely better than having nothing but not a 100% for sure safety net.
Agreed - not 100%. We are not thrill seekers, high risk adventurers, or days-long hikers. Mostly a drive to a trail head and hike for a day couple. Just part of the prep for a good day, and a back up plan for a bad day.

I don’t see you having too many signal issues unless you’re in the western part of the province or northeastern BC.

I know the southern prairie is a lot different than where you are but I was driving west out of Regina to a mountain bike race one time, and I swear I could see the Calgary Tower on the horizon and the Winnipeg skyline in my rear view mirror. ;)

Waterton Lake area is bad. The stretch between Jasper & Banff is also a problem. We like these areas though.

It's a piece of kit you hope to one day say, damn that was a waste because we never used it.

Here's who I used, lots of various German tools. This is the link to the Knipex brand which are the two I picked up. Check out how they "ratchet".

Just arrived today...ARB compressor I bid on and got for $41.00, shipped from Az.
Anyone have any info on it...I took a chance on it for the price. Works perfectly, looks to have the original hose and wire connections. Direct 12 volt battery wire hook up, no switch, and hose is permanently crimped to fitting.
Planning on splicing a on/off switch to it, and change the fitting out to a quick disconnect.
No instruction or info, but in an ARB "Box".
Gonna try to contact ARB for possible owner booklet/info.

Perhaps an older version.

Here is my Ford Performance version purchased from @LevittownFordParts.com

Complete with power switch and quick disco. Works great.

Contacted and heard back from ARB....
Said it was at least 15 years old, maybe going back to 2002. Sent me a version of manual which was 2 pages, but helps.
Apparently original as manual shows same hose and wiring.
Compressor looks almost brand new....outside of box shows some scrapes like it was in the trunk of a vehicle, but never used.
Operating sticker on inside of box says to start, attach red and black clips to battery, to turn off, disconnect clips.....no switch.
Going to hook a switch up, and replace crimped hose with 1/4 inch quick dis-connect ...
But hay, for $41 bucks can't miss.
