Agreed - not 100%. We are not thrill seekers, high risk adventurers, or days-long hikers. Mostly a drive to a trail head and hike for a day couple. Just part of the prep for a good day, and a back up plan for a bad day.Something to be aware of with these is you need to "see" the satellite for it to work. If you are in heavily wooded area, it may not get signal. Same would go for valleys, mountains, caves... We had one with us on a remote fishing trip over the summer and someone would have to stand on the rocks at the edge of the water, away from the trees, to get signal. Sometimes it took 30 minutes.
I suspect like your home satellites, it would also be affected by weather.
It's absolutely better than having nothing but not a 100% for sure safety net.
