Thanks to @subquark and @airline tech , my next posting in the “What are you feeding your Ranger owner tonight?” will feature a can of Friskies.

Spendy? Yes, but these look like they’ll be a useful addition to my tool bag - not just for my Ranger but for so many other things.

Awesome! I loved (LOVED) them for doing toilet bolts (tmi?), much easier than a crescent wrench (sooo hard to keep repositioning it, oh my god, life can be sooo hard at times) and no marring of the nuts (I hate it when I mar my nuts, ouch).

No, not a dirty toilet, it's brand new. I'm using a diamond cup to grind paint and spalling off the basement walls and what a HUGE mess it's making. I have six 10'x12' visqueen sheets over all the basement stuff plus smaller ones over the washer and dryer, workbench, and boiler. Luckily all our basement crap was shoved to the middle for the insulation guys, but this grinding sucks - good thing I have dump runs o look forward to! =D

that's the XS size on the nut, I'm always scared I'm gonna crack the bowl ...

Look out silicosis and lead poisoning! I do plop on safety glasses over my prescription glasses, nothing like double the dust coating to see absolutely nothing - bah! =p

We are getting further from civilization more often. Considered a cell phone signal booster. That would have been tied to the truck. The real want was to be able to text (who makes calls?) and access emergency services if needed.
The Garmin Inreach Mini 2 checked the most boxes. These little guys are a spendy piece of gear though. Fortunately, these went on sale all over the place for Black Friday.

This is pretty cool Dan. Does it have a touch keypad or do you just pair it to a phone or watch and text from that device? If it’s on the paired device, do you just text as usual or do you text through a Garmin app on the paired device and the inReach sends and receives the messages?

So intrigued…

Something to be aware of with these is you need to "see" the satellite for it to work. If you are in heavily wooded area, it may not get signal. Same would go for valleys, mountains, caves... We had one with us on a remote fishing trip over the summer and someone would have to stand on the rocks at the edge of the water, away from the trees, to get signal. Sometimes it took 30 minutes.
I suspect like your home satellites, it would also be affected by weather.
It's absolutely better than having nothing but not a 100% for sure safety net.

This one works paired or stand alone. No touch screen, just a few buttons on the sides. Kind of tricky to use as a stand alone, but doable. What’s interesting is an inreach device can message another inreach device directly. You maintain the functionality of no cell phone is paired or has service, or if the battery dies. Also better mapping when your cell phone is offline.
