I have a question for those more knowledgeable than me. I hit a curb hard while turning and it looks like my tire is toast and the rim is damaged (superficialy?). My Ford Ranger is a 2020 Lariat with 4x4. The Ranger has 31750 miles on it. The tires are stock Hankook Dynapro ATM (RF10) All Terrain 265/65R17 112T.

The question is do I need to replace only the damaged passenger front tire or both front tires or all four tires? Obviously if I had to only replace the damaged tire that would be great but I don’t want to take any shortcuts as safety for my family is the priority. I also tow a small 20 foot travel trailer three or four times a year if this has any relevance.

Thanks for reading this and for the advice.

Not sure how much tread you have left on the other three, but I've always replaced in pairs unless the other tires were almost new. Basically, if I had one bad front tire, I ended up with two new front tires.

With close to 32K on those Hankooks have got to be close to 3/4 gone. So replace at least 2 if not all 4 and keep the new ones on the same axle, when you rotate. I've got about the same on my Hankooks and I am looking at replacing them this fall yet. I am looking at having to deal with a mid-west winter and the Hankooks aren't great with full tread.

Due to mileage(and most likely being a 4x4) you will need to replace all 4. That said I would also look into getting the wheel fixed.

I was going to mention that and forgot. That looks to be more than "superficial" damage, what with it being more than half-way around and quite bad at the tire damage. There could be deeper damage that you can't see, hairline cracks and the like.

If you replace just 2 then in 10-20k miles when the other tires are worn out you would have to replace them and you will never reach the point that all the tires have about equal wear. That maybe OK with you as it is cheaper. With over 30k miles on the tires, I would replace all 4. I would also replace the wheel. In chance of insurance helping out?

If you're not ready to replace all the tires, check around the used tires shops, you may find one at a reasonable price that will carry you until all 4 are worn out. Being the factory installed tires, there's a real possibility you'll even find a another Dyna-pro ATM. Or check Marketplace, Craig's list etc there are often options there for factory take-offs.

I guess the tire shop could test the rim to be sure it's still round?

I was backing into my driveway and ran into a brick ledge. Didn't do any real damage except cosmestic. I was going to get it repaired, but then after a few days I stopped looking at it. If yours is only cosmetic then you may be able to ignore it, but that's a lot more than mine is.

Ouch! That's a hard hit!

The tire definitely needs to be replaced. Given the mileage on the truck, I would replace 2 at minimum. The wheel looks like it may be able to be repaired. Sending a DM your way.
