Do these lowly factory workers get a say in your wage? We are all entitled to our opinion though, can’t really blame you for sharing.

A big part of the contention was when wages were froze and benefits walked back when times were tough. Now times are good and….
You bet costs are up. But profits means the money remaining after costs (including wages + benefits) is up.
I would love to see a something like a bonus structure for a plant with a measurable reduction in employee-related warranty/quality issues.
I'm also curious why quality metrics aren't a big part of the annual profit sharing as they are for the Tier 1s. Probably part of it is that the plant will never accept it's the issue and point the finger at suppliers or engineering.

I do find it funny that the union complains about the companies not sharing their profits when profit sharing checks have been bigger than ever for the UAW this year. Around $12k I think.

My wife just retired as the director of the special education department at a local school not far from the Wentzville plant. These guys start out making more money than my wife did at retirement with over 30 years experience and a masters degree plus. Not to mention what our first responders and military make. So, no, I don't feel a bit sorry for them.
amen.

It seems to me that the criteria the union is using for their wage increase demand is based on what the CEO's pay is and the supposed record profits, they claim the Execs are overpaid so they want to be too.
Both sides are going to price themselves out of a customer base that is able to afford their product.

with the quality of cars and trucks coming from the uaw crowd lately, prices, shameful dealer networks, and lack parts these groups should be real damn grateful to have a job at all.

The foreign workers would love to have each and every one of the uaw jobs, would do them for a lower cost, and likely make a better product with less delays - i mean they already make most of the components already. save on shipping cost and wait time ?.

work and labor unions dont mean much when the companies fold up or move out. this will just hurt the customers in the end. shortages demand production waits. If i made the money these guys are unhappy with, i could afford a new ford again... but wouldnt buy one.

Yeah and everyone picks a side cause they are forcefed the idea there are only two to pick from. I just watched a clip of the UAW goon yelling "you stand with the rich or you stand with the working class". Like thanks for laying out my opinions for me, now go stand on the third rail for a bit.

I heard that they are asking for a 30% pay raise. They are also concerned about losing jobs due to ramp up in EV production, which will require 30% less workers.
I bet they will still vote democrat, though.
That is one of a few things I always disliked about the unions I was in over the years. They wanted us to vote democrat and would also use our union dues to make contributions to democratic candidates.

With my last job, the union got too greedy and screwed themselves. I worked in a pharmaceutical distribution warehouse, the union wanted 3 mechanics, 2 electricians, 1 welder, and 1 machinist in the maintenance department per shift. Most of the daily maintenance work could be handled by one or two people. Most of the time one could take care of everything.

Due to the unreasonable demands, the maintenance department ended up being non union and considered part of management as far as the union was concerned. It was awkward being paid hourly while being considered management for me.

Another job I was part of the Machinist union. But since we were so far away from District, they didn't care about us or help us. The only thing they cared about was collecting dues. All of us tool and die makers were paid lest than union scale for all the other shops in the district.

We were told that we would have to move to a different local. The problem there was that we would have actually taken a pay cut because the dues would have doubled.

The UAW will mess around and manufacturing will be sent out of country. I have seen it happen before.

I am just looking forward to the Chinese brands making big inroads to the North American market.
They have been looking for the chance and this could be it.
Edit: gotta remember to add 'sarcasm' at the end

With a stiff 27% tariff on Chinese autos still in place that's a huge barrier and certainly protectionist , Chinese have bought a wide range of us companies but likely have no intent of attempting to buy a us baes auto company, can't say I blame them.

this will annoy some and its not my intent. if these brands like gm ford and others keep getting free bailouts, keep having dangerous issues requiring legal action to protect lives, cant get things under control enough to have the business run and make products - should they even be in bizz still??? I dont want to see folks out of jobs but a lot of the things that happen with auto and airlines sorta look like dying horses been kept alive at any expense. the brass and bolt turners all make considerably more money than i do. so i dont have sympathy for any of them.

Ford didn’t take the bailout.

“Though GM and Chrysler eventually did get a bailout — Ford did not need help because it had fortuitously secured a large amount of financing shortly before the crisis — it was not all sweetness and light.Sep 12, 2018”
