Now lets do some math.
Take the $30 million she made that year and divided between the 155,000 at GM.
Each person gets $193 extra for the entire year.

If I worked for a company for 20 years and have lots of experience, I should be making good money. So, why would I push for equal pay for new employees that have little to no experience?
yeah i dont entirely get that part either BUT part of it is the "new hires" are anyone hired since 2007.. not exactly new workers... some of those people want raises for being on the job for 15 years...

As long as you make a decent salary, what difference does it make what others get paid? the part that sucks about unions, everybody gets treated/paid the same regardless of how they perform. I've worked in unions, along side slackers, who have limited desire to perform, because the union protects them. Maybe someone can come up with the figure on how much union leaders make. I'd bet they are some high salaries. Maybe they should cut their pay, so union members will have to pay lower dues.
Let them price themselves out of a job. Less people will be able to afford a new car, sales down, labor cuts.
Even when I held a union job, I worked my ass off. I've found when I make my boss look good, good comes back to me, ie promotions with higher pay.
i thin kthe argument is that when you are on the job for 10 years making $17 per hour and another guy who managed to get hired in 2006 is getting $30.. you feel like there is an inequality there... they have some weird cut off where everyone hired before 2007 gets nearly double what everyone after is getting...

Well, that make sense. But of course, the media twist it all up to confuses the people about "evil capitalists."

I work in an OEM plant that is non union. It’s always interesting to watch these unfold. The reason UAW asked for a 40% raise is because that’s roughly what the big 3 CEO’s received (I think it was last year) it’s online what their raises were. It’s kinda hard for CEO’s making over 20 million a year to say someone is overpaid in my opinion lol. Ford should be concerned about the billion dollars they stated they are looking to loose this year on the EV concept in my opinion. I was in Germany when IG Metal who represents the car plants there went on strike. It was my only experience and definitely interesting lol. I think they agreed to 33 or 35 hour work weeks for more pay. Hopefully both sides come to an agreement that works for both sides as well as the customers.

With a 4 day work week and 5 weeks paid vacation plus 17 paid holidays...if my math is right that all adds up to 90 paid days off a year. Oh and retiree pay...retiree medical benefits. All for a bunch of bolt tighteners. Ford should just dissolve the company and rename it Foyota.
Actually they should call it Fesla because Tesla, who's already in the driver's seat, is getting a severe boost by the UAW striking the big three. The UAW better be careful because they'll have all the workers out of a job if they get too greedy. As I say pigs get fat, hog get slaughtered.

I think i saw the Wayne Mi plant was the first on strike ? Is that the Ranger plant ?
yes

I have a superduty scheduled to be made the week of Oct 2. I'm sure the UAW is targeting lesser priced vehicles first, before they start screwing with the rest of the assembly plants. Gives the auto makers time to come to an agreement after dragging their feet all Summer

I heard that they are asking for a 30% pay raise. They are also concerned about losing jobs due to ramp up in EV production, which will require 30% less workers.
I bet they will still vote democrat, though.
If you're in a union and don't vote dem you get your house burned down, beat with baseball bats and stabbed with ice picks!

I'm generally supportive of unions, but demanding 40% pay increase, 32 hour work week and a defined benefit pension plan? I think these guys and gals have been inhaling too many fumes from the paint booth.

They want a 32 hr week, so they can work a normal 40 hr week and force the companies to pay them time and a half for 8 hrs. It’s a scheme to get overtime pay without actually working overtime.

Imo the outrageous part is the price of new trucks!!!! 60 grand for an xl hd 40k for an xl f150 34k for an xl ranger. F150 raptor v8 over 100k. Decent hd truck about 70k. What. Thats my outrage, employees should make what welders in the oil fields make with a ged. 40 to 50 an hour.

Thing is, its our own fault for continuing to pay, high prices. Then its against the law to speak up and say don't buy, free commerce act or some s@#$ like that.

Wow, if we could solve the worlds problems with a six pack of beer and a ranger 5g forum

Do these lowly factory workers get a say in your wage? We are all entitled to our opinion though, can’t really blame you for sharing.

A big part of the contention was when wages were froze and benefits walked back when times were tough. Now times are good and….
You bet costs are up. But profits means the money remaining after costs (including wages + benefits) is up.
I would love to see a something like a bonus structure for a plant with a measurable reduction in employee-related warranty/quality issues.

I dunno, I can see it both ways here. I guess it really depends on what your specific job is and how much room you have to actually influence things in the job. If my job is to put the left front wheel on a Ranger and I can do it just as well and consistently as Bob who puts on the right front wheel and has been doing it 5 years longer, why shouldn't I get paid the same? I'm doing the exact same job to the same standard. On the flip side, I know there are positions where experience matters and the line lead who's been there 30 years will be a heck of a lot more effective then someone who's been around for 2. I think what's missing is skill/value based compensation and less emphasis on time.
