Evening!

I've been lurking on this forum since June of 2022, when I purchased a 2022 Ranger Lariat 4x4, FX4 Oxford White with the Black appearance package (photo attached).

Long story short, over one week ago on July 16, a kid crossed two lanes of traffic to attempt to enter the right-hand lane and drove into the side of my truck as I was passing by. My truck was totaled - 1yr+1mo old and 4760 miles.... LF knuckle bent, nearly the entire left side of the truck damaged, side curtain airbags deployed, the A pillar torn apart at the base, the B pillar smashed - you get the point. About 26k of damage according to the insurance estimate.

Fast forward to today and I managed to snag a 2023 Ranger Lariat 4x4, FX4 Shadow Black with the Splash appearance package (side graphics deleted at factory). The dealer was 5min from my house and the price was fair.

Overall, the accident sucked. However, in 2022 I wanted a black truck and couldn't find one. Now, I have exactly what I want!

Progressive (my insurance company) has been great thus far, getting me an excellent payout plus a little extra for the aftermarket add ons (CVF intercooler, tonneau cover, etc).

I can't wait till the dust settles and I can start tinkering with this one!

FYI: I am a heavy equipment field mechanic by trade and I started as an auto mechanic. If anyone has a question or needs some help, send me a message.

Cheers!

Welcome Anthony. Sorry to hear the truck was totaled but in a roundabout way you ended up with what you wanted.

The damage you described doesn't look all that bad in the picture. Seems a side hit on these trucks does some serious damage.

It's the airbag deployment and pillar damage that were the culprits - in a way, I was relieved, as I would not want to own a truck that was pieced back together with an airbag deployment on the Carfax.

Welcome Anthony. Sorry to hear about your accident but glad you walked away from it. My '19 was totaled back in April and I scrambled to find my Tremor which in hindsight was a blessing in disguise now. My airbags never went off but there was enough damage to total it. Like you I did not want this back especially with a Carfax on it.

Someone picked it clean at the body shop.:oops:

Thanks everyone!

Admittedly, I had never been in an accident where the airbags deployed - it's an interesting experience. All I remember is seeing the front of the other guys car entering my lane and then it was all over, bags deployed, truck dialing 911, a haze inside the cab from the propellant that fills the bags. The airbag in the driver's seat bolster left a nice burn and scrape on the inside of my left arm, and I was bleeding. This, combined with me having to climb over the console to get out through the passenger side door, had me a bit rattled that morning. It's over, the airbags did their job, and I live to tell another tale. Word.

His vehicle is most likely totaled, as well...

It’s even painful to look at those pictures of your previous truck.

Not everyone picks black color intentionally.

Welcome! Is a lurker different than a stalker? ? afaf.
That's quite a rig in the background. I imagine working on the big stuff makes the Ranger look like a toy.

Glad you’re okay Anthony and I love your new Shadow Black Ranger. Man, it’s a good thing that guy wasn’t driving your service truck!

Back in the day, a hammer, some bondo and a sanding block would have been sufficient.
Glad you moved into another Ranger. I've seen quite an uptick in my local area of the new Frontiers
