Something few people think about...

100,000 miles using approximately 6,000 gallons of gas = roughly $20,000!

That tells me that it sits a lot with quite a few short trips
Incorrect :) As I mentioned, I mostly drive highway and longer trips.
It does sit frequently, but can't extrapolate whether trips are short or long from the 8k miles number :)

In an earlier post you noted changing tires about 2k miles ago. I think I understand that you have 8k miles on it now. What drove the decision to replace and what tires are you using now?

Exactly; although I may have accidentally hit instead of 5, if I said 2: my records show it was ~5k miles ago (at 2.5-3k miles ago).

what tires are you using now?
From that same post:
"Tires are Firestone Destination At2, and my mpg didn't drop from stock (19-20 mpg) to when I switched to these new tires. I also didn't change anything when it started dropping from 19-20, to 17-18."

What drove the decision to replace and what tires are you using now?
The reason for changing was for better rain/snow performance and off-road durability.

If you can get someone with a scanner to read your long term fuel trim (LTFT), that is the next info you need as it tells what the learned fueling is.

Thanks ! Yep, it's on the list. I have a few scanners i'm planning to try shortly, (forescan and other one obdii device), but not sure which can do LTFT.

If you purchase a scanner, just make sure you can view live data with it. You can get a lot of insight from live data.

I used torque pro in a recent trip to monitor LTFT and STFT specifically because of this thread. They sat between +5 and -5 and were typically opposite each other so they combined ~0. I can probably capture a log tomorrow and post that if it helps you.

I will say this about MPG ... NOTHING is worse for MPG than idling with the AC running ... holy hell it drops to 8 or 9mpg n the escape and 10 or so with the Ranger. I get my Ranger back tomorrow. going to be testing the higher Octane gas

My mileage is about 2 mpg different between winter and summer gas blends.

I checked short term fuel trim (LTFT wasn't available in Torque lite, and I didn't yet use forescan), and here's what I saw:

STFT at 70 mph (level highway): -3 to - 4%
STFT during stop and go: -10 to -10%
engine load at idle: 16%
engine load at 70 mph (level highway): 45%
ranger-reported mpg in Torque, vs ranger display: 5-7 mpg difference. (note that the ranger-displayed value is within 0.1 of hand-calculate values, so the OBDii values are off)

Is this acceptable?

Running list of things checked: spark plugs, brake seizing, short term fuel trim (STFT)
Pending: LTFT (that's the last item that I know of)

Did you have an alignment done after you installed the Bilstein 5100's? I read you put them at stock ride height but I did the same with Eibach Pro Truck with stock springs. What I found out when I got an alignment was the toe was more positive than spec. Even toe-in at the max spec will affect fuel economy. If you did get an alignment do you have the printout?

How many times do you squeeze the handle to top off when you fill up? I hear bad things can happen if you do that too much. Myself, after the first time it stops, I wait a few seconds, squeeze it slightly for one more auto stop and hang it up.

Good thought. Reputable shop said no alignment needed -- already good. I took it to a shop to double check.
It might be worth doing it again though since it's been 5k miles since then.

Never do any extra squeezes.
