No? My bad. I always thought you were building some sort of tactical security law enforcement truck.
I've used my knowledge from my career and a mild hobby of prepping to build (still a work in progress) a self contained bug out vehicle. When I refer to bug out, I am referring more to weather related or if an agency needs an extra set of eyes or lights for something like search and rescue. It is not built for some masturbatory zombie or evil government is coming to get us fantasy.

I could make a snazzy hood graphic with this (convert it to white) and then shape around it with black accents like my bed sides. Or be super nerdy and buy a 1/42 scale model on the internet and drill and connect the display base to the front of my roof platform. lmao

Macross versus Enterprise...do it!
I mean comparing the enterprise to, for example, the YF-19 would be like a high school line backer walking into a kindergarten class and pile driving the first goblin at the front of the class.

Come on man. No realism.... lol

Maybe it was more of a regional thing, I was born in 1964 and haven't heard of it, but go retro!
Unless you two were watching cartoons into your 20's and 30's I am not surprised. Also keep in mind Japanese animation was still very much a niche thing in those days. To see the original Macross stuff you basically had to locate a boot-leg VHS that was also fan-subtitled to English.

Robotech, which was the Americanized version (with it's inferior animation artists) came out in 1985. I believe Macross was 1982 in Japan. I was born in 1981, so I did not actually see one of these boot-leg VHS tapes till sometime in the 90s as a teenager.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robotech

This series also got me into reading books as a kid. 21 individual paper back novels and I read all of them. I think later on they combined a bunch and you can only find later re-printed condensed into 12 books.

But as I mentioned previously, everything in both American and Japanese pop culture is a direct rip-off of this series including the beloved Transformers. Even some of the original Jet Fire toys from the 1980's were just recolored Robotech jet toys.

Now in all fairness, Macross Plus (my favorite series as a kid) which came out in the 90's clearly had direct influence of the American film Top Gun.

From the Wiki...

Three decades after the great war between the humans and the Zentradi, in January 2040, the U.N. government is developing new technologies to use in their transforming fighter aircraft by running tests on the colony planet Eden. Military test pilots and former childhood friends, loose cannon Isamu Alva Dyson and the Zentradi mixed race Guld Goa Bowman, are selected to each pilot a new aircraft (Shinsei Industries' YF-19 & General Galaxy's YF-21) for Project Super Nova, to choose the newest successor to the VF-11 Thunderbolt variable fighter which is currently still in use by the U.N. Spacy military forces. Their own personal grudges end up disrupting the tests, and begin to wreak havoc on the program.
So basically two Maverick characters re-imagined and running havok on a jet fighter testing program. One of the main characters even drives around, yup, a sci-fi sport bike. lol

Oh hey look, it is cartoon Tom Cruise, but Japanese!

Project M, code named "Yar Matey" has begun.

Step one, change out amber lighting to yellow.

Step two: order some more matte black vinyl and some matte yellow vinyl.

Step three, I think some jolly rogers are going to be involved. Yaaaaar thats the ticket!

Meh maybe, I swapped over my fog systems to match my low beams, but it is pretty tempting...

Hmmm...

How did I miss this thread. I love robotech. Have all three main “seasons”/generations, American version or whatever. It’s my comfort show. Haven’t watched it in years. I’ve seen some of the macross plus stuff as well.

Wow Jack...had no idea you're such a geek underneath that uniform lol...I discovered Gundam when I was in my 20s and then anime hooked me in...I'm sure you're no stranger to Appleseed Ex Machina, Vexille, Akira, Battleship Yamato, Final Fantasy, Harlock Space Prirate, Evangelion Genesis, Patlabor, Sky Crawler, Sky Blue, Ghost in the Shell, Yukikazi...Yukikazi was supposed to have been made into live action with Tom Cruise...

I grew up on Robotech/Macross, Ranma 1/2, Tenchi Muyo, NGE, Vampire Hunter D, Akira etc etc

I never got into that hot garbage called DBZ.

Once I discovered anime as a kid watching american stuff was not possible. Like GI JOE... where guns shoot laser beams and no one dies.... ever.

Have not watched anything in some 20+ years. I think last thing I watched seriously was Initial D in the early 2000's. I'm trying to get back into watching some, I started watching Demon Slayer on Netflix, its a nice mix of humor and gore. Way too much character self exposition though. I always hated that about anime.
