Everything else I have is Lamin-X'd true amber and I finally found some actual amber bulbs. Just a fun test I wanted to do.

Good news, out to 25 yards they are nice. Beyond that they suck donkey balls. Kind of sucks because its a unique light setup you will probably never see and would be very effective in extremely bad visibility weather.

The grille is a work in progress, I am fabricating cover pieces for the remaining letters; I just have not cut and shaped the ABS sheet yet for it sitting in my garage.

Photo of the gate wall is at 25 yards.

I like the idea.

How'd you do it? Your paint on the bulbs? Laminate on the lights?

I ran yellow headlights for awhile until it got me a 170$ fine ? I really liked it from a functional standpoint... super awesome in crap weather.. made driving through a snowstorm much more comfortable due to 'increased' visibility..

But no.

"I understand the yellow headlights are great in bad weather, but unfortunately they're against the law for no good reason so here's a ticket kid"

No respect for that shit.

Yellow/amber color temperatures increase contrast perception, which is helpful in "flat light" situations like twilight, fog or snow. Most DOTs have replaced the coppery amber low sodium arc lamps to a more blueish color LED assembly for roadway lighting. Less power consumption but the peach color lit far more area with better contrast, IMO.
Not sure about Maine, but several other states let you run yellow fog lights if the white headlights are also on. Largely defeats the purpose, but the laws were written when headlights were 6v 35w incandescents.

Headlights & fogs need to be white per maine state law, last I read.

Lawmen seem to not care about the fogs.. as I see yellow/amber fogs on a healthy amount of vehicles.. but they don't take kindly to yellow headlamps that's for sure.

No, actual amber LEDs. The problem is most shit advertised as amber, is not amber, it is yellow.
Nice. I figured you had painted them like your lenses since you said "actual."

Odd that some states give that much crap about head lamp colors.

As long as they, 1.) Illuminate Safe Passage and 2.) Alert others to your presence on the road at night/bad weather I can't imagine why they would give a shit outside of brightness guidelines strictly in regards to other drivers.

Georgia law is a bit vague, it says something about SAE standards and "mostly white". Yea that quoted part is actually the term they use in the law books. Brilliant.

In my area we generally don't give a crap as long as no one uses our special snowflake color; blue.

Probably shouldn't say Georgia and mostly white in the same sentence.

Oh these LEDs were just a test for fun.

I normally run Hella XL extreme yellow halogens in my low beams. I love them.
I guess I don’t want to be noticed that much. To each his own.

I don't know how there're so many cars in my area with blue, red, orange, purple lights up front...
