Congrats and kudos for Ford pretty much doing the "right thing" .
Miguel just called and said the job is done, I'll pick up tonight and report back...

I got the truck back Friday, 5 working days after I dropped it off, cleaned and smelling like a new car (I'm guessing that's due to the adhesives used in reassembly). I put 250 road miles on the truck over the weekend and the HVAC worked correctly on all settings. Another plus is the one rattle (since almost new) and one squeak (fairly recent) that were in the dash are now gone, at least for now. Ford paid for 80% even though the truck had over 100,000 miles and gave a 24 month, unlimited mileage warranty on parts and labor.

I have to echo the consensus on ease of repair expressed in this thread.

2020 XL, STX, FX4, ~55k miles. Clicking, and stuck stuck in luke-warm position. Single zone rotary-nob HVAC.

Replaced actuator in less than 30 minutes, taking my time. Was prepared for hell or molestation of the steel dash supports --Neither were necessary. Blend door actuator on passenger side with all fasteners assessable. Disassembled old actuator and my guess is that position sensing fingers or circuit was defective. No obvious damage.

Correct replacement Ford Part number: AB3Z 19E616-B, made in Thailand. Multiple dealerships could not identify the correct "temp-blend-door actuator", so they forced me to buy both. Yes, Ford has gone down hill. Ford's third-world 5G Ranger is still the best medium size truck available in USA by all objective analysis.

You did what I call a Band-Aid repair.

Maybe it is a bandaid. Time will tell.

When manipulated by hand, my blend door mechanism was smooth and unobstructed in travel. If my post saves someone competent with their hands $4000, this forum will have done its job.

About a month in and all is still working well. Even if it fails every 2-3 months, I’d probably choose to continue replacing $35 actuators over a $4000 repair. I am notoriously cheap.

If the new actuator fails again, I’ll report that back. Good luck folks.

Bit the bullet today and bought an Xwarranty 3 yrs, 28k additional miles - this is something I have never, ever done before on anything, but fear of HVAC box failure drove me to an act of desperation.

Like that the Ford ESP offers a lot of options , plus IIRC correct someone posted Ford paid all but $700 for out of warranty for HVAC repair, so reason for $780 I get a bunch of other sh*t covered and I can sleep at night without hearing the clicking and gnashing of actuator motors in my dreams, only the melodic sounds of wife snoring.

Reading a post on FB yesterday, Ford Tech Makuloco pulled the dash on a '19 Ranger and mentioned how pleased he was at the simplicity. He posted a picture of the air Distibution box and said he slipped it out without any coolant or refrigerant removal. If this happens out of warranty, really doesn't look too bad.

You did what I call a Band-Aid repair.

Update,

I traded the truck in on a Jeep Gladiator. The HVAC blend door problem reintroduced itself after about 6 months and I simply had enough. Actuator and eccentric popped off the blend door lever, even though the actuator was still affixed tightly.

Even broken, it held its resale value very well —thanks Ford, or Wuhan Lab, or federal reserve inflation, …or whatever reason.

Mopar’s have been exceedingly reliable for me and my family over the past 25 years.

For all of you who have a good Ranger, I wish you continued joy and happiness. The truck is the best mid-size truck by any objective standards. Mine was simply an aberration.

As other stated, the factory stack-up must indeed be bad or the entire assembly has a manufacturing defect.

Good luck with the Gladiator. You gotta spend your money on what makes YOU happy. :like:

It comes to mind from time to time but I'm thinking about trading mine again.

I just got a very good cash offer from Vroom, several thousand more than I paid 3+ years ago.

Don't get me wrong as I REALLY like this truck, but sometimes I find myself thinking about just getting myself another older Frontier (2011-2015 ONLY) and banking the extra cash.

I only have 22k on it after 3+ years so it's not like I drive it a ton. Then I do drive it and I think "I'm keeping this forever".

I know, first world problems and decisions, but an older Frontier in the years I mentioned would be a set it and forget it truck.

Drivers side dashboard vents delivering hot air when A/C is on. Passenger side vents delivering cold air. Never heard of issue before…any ideas? 2019 Ranger

It could very well be the dreaded blend door issue - you can read up on the issue by searching in this forum. Searching “blend door” or “climate control” will likely yield some results.

Best of luck. ?

They may try and deny warranty, as is the Ford way.
Fight them on it, it's not a cheap fix if out of pocket.

Mine was doing that the other day, I "restarted it" by turning the heat all the way up, then all the way down. Though I still get an issue where at lowest setting air is only coming out of the driver side. I'll live with it for now lol

Mine did this too, just out of warranty. Ford has been beyond unhelpful on the issue. This among many other issues precipitated my move back to the inferior Tacoma. At least it has a reliable motor, transmission, and HVAC system to make up for the other shortcomings.
