Mine i bought in Canada is a21 xlt and they're sure as fuck plastic front fenders, also anywhere i read states only the hood and tailgate are aluminium mine are plastic from factory
The facia below the head lights and bumper are plastic, but I seriously doubt that the fender (wheel well) is plastic. It's either aluminum or steel.

So the body shop I visited (been in business since 1987 and very reputable) that said the fender is aluminum is wrong then??? Very interesting!

A plastic fender would not dent the way an aluminum fender would. Plus, plastic would show stress marks, paint would crack, the color would change. But I guess all the physics and chemistry classes I had in college were worthless then.

Update: Just got my Ranger back from the auto body shop. Took about a week for the repair and they were able to fix the dent instead of replacing the fender. It turned out perfect! $1,172.83 was the damage. $500 of that was my out-of-pocket deductible. I was given a free loaner car for the week too. Ranger was completely detailed - inside and out. Have to give a shout out to Augusta Auto Body Inc. in Saint Cloud/Saint Augusta, Minnesota!!! Great attention to detail!!!

And yes - the fender was aluminum

Worst bird damage I saw was a Tahoe hit a Turkey on a Kansas back road. Hit right in the middle of the grille…driver was in front of the small town Sheriff’s Department getting a police report for insurance. Bird was still in the grille. The front of that Tahoe was destroyed ??

A guy I used to work with was driving on one of the 400-series highways (Ontario's equivalent to the Interstates) when his windshield just disintegrated. It turns out that he'd collided with a Canada Goose; they found it in the passenger foot-well.

Cops said it was a good thing that he was the one driving, because of the three in the car, he was the only one wearing glasses. The other two were temporarily blinded from the glass particles in their eyes (both recovered fully), but his glasses mostly shielded his eyes, so he was able to safely steer his car onto the shoulder.

Damn , 6 months ?
I put off the repair until we got towards the end of winter. The last half-mile leading into our house is a township road that is not a top priority for getting plowed for snow. With our record-setting winter for snowfall, I would have been "lost" without my truck to drive through the snow-covered roads.

I assume from that price that they had to repaint just like mine?

Looks like they did good work.

That's being prudent.
On my way home from visiting a friend in Preston, MN earlier this month, I did some full contact deer shining just outside Cannon Falls, MN. I can't get into the bodyshop until May 1st. "Busy, busy winter!" They tell me. Shout out to Wayne's Auto Body in Hastings, Mn. I've had bodywork, including a motorcycle, done there in the past; six out of five stars, worth the wait!

I love that expression, "full contact deer shining".

Years ago, a friend of mine hit a moose up in NW Ontario. For anyone who's never seen a moose strike, this is about what you can expect:
1679667574170.webp

The moose is tall enough on its legs that when you hit it, the body typically is higher than your hood, so it just slides along it through your windshield. If you're going fast enough, it can completely rip off the roof and anything that's higher than the engine, including the upper-half of any passengers. They can be pretty gruesome wrecks.

In her case, two things saved her. 1) She was driving in a blizzard, so she was only doing about 25km/h (roughly 15mph), so when she hit it, it just collapsed on the hood and didn't do too much sliding, and 2) she's short; maybe 5'2" or so; even though the moose didn't slid much, it was big enough that it still caved in the windshield and part of the roof, but because of her height, she was nestled in the tiny little triangle of space that remained. All she got were some cuts on her hands which had been on the upper-half of the steering wheel. Had she been going any faster, or been much taller, she'd have been killed.

PSA: If you ever do drive through moose country (and this goes double in night/poor visibility), find yourself a semi truck with a moose bumper like this on the front, and stay behind them as long as you possibly can.

I know that area well - I grew up in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. Made many trips to Hastings, drove through Cannon Falls on the way to Rochester, and on to Iowa to visit relatives. Lots of deer in the area. Largest buck my Dad ever "got" was 16 points - he got it with a 1987 Dodge Ram Charger in one clean shot! Hope you stay dry and no flooding with the "Heat Wave" coming this weekend! Here in Minnesota - 40 degrees means shorts and t-shirts!!!

Yes - repaint. Aluminum is a tricky fix for sure!
