Hey guys anybody ever notice when you get your gas filled up once in a while the needle takes like 10 minutes to go up to full.... Even when you have it on a fuel economy and you're looking at the digital how long you have till empty it takes a while do you think that could be a problem? This is only the second time it's happened since I've had the truck it's been 2 years.... And it was 32° this morning... Anything would be appreciated

While I've never had your issue, I had something similar happen. I had my Ranger idling a looong time once. The needle was at 3/4 of a tank when I eventually turned it off. When I restarted it the next morning the needle was 1/2 a tank. The needle didn't drop the whole time it was idling.
I'm going to blame a computer, or not having a tailgate damper.

If you leave the truck on or the key on accessories it will take time to go back up. This is because the computer stops the needle from bouncing Everytime we slam on the brakes or hit a bump. However if your truck is completely off my whole explanation is pointless. Time for more coffee☕

All the time when I leave it running while I fill up, I know that sign that says 'do not leave engine running while fueling' but when it's cold or hot outside I let it run.

I don't think I've ever seen that. It's always at the F mark when I hop back in the truck and start it after filling up

The ignition switch needs to be completly off when filling up. I used to have mine in accesory mode to watch as it filled and calculate the MPG. When doing that it would read only 3/4 tank even thought it was full. It would take sometimes until the next day to read a full tank. With the iginition switch completely off, it will read correct when the key is turned after the fill up. This is the only vehicle I've even been in that is like that.

I see you're in NJ; so you're getting filled up by an attendant and are you leaving your car on? I think if that is the case it's fascinating that they will not allow you to touch the pump but they'll hire somebody that will let you leave your car on while they pump gas.

To answer your question I've never had this issue on my truck but I shut down every time I refill gas.

I always leave my truck running while fueling up.

I've never seen this delay. I can watch the distance to empty climb on the reminder window. And the guage goes to full immediately.

Lariat with electronic fuel guage if that matters at all.

My 1999 Cougar was the same way, if it was left running while filling it up Hadn't noticed the Ranger doing it. My 2009 Mariner's trip computer has the ability to reset the selections individually, rather than reset everything only.

Please tell me what you THINK is wrong with that. I'm all ears.

Let me guess, the sign on the pump that tells you not to use your cell phone while the pump has a built in TV.

I don't live in Oregon or New Jersey. I know how to pump gas without pouring it all over hot or sparky bits.

I almost always keep mine on in accessory mode while it is filling and it displays correctly. Maybe this is a difference between the XLT (regular gauge) and the Lariat (digital gauge)?

I remember our old Explorer would do that if you turned it to accessory while it was filling. Sometimes even if you didn't it wouldn't register full for a while.

I used to stay in accessory mode most of the time. Then I noticed sometimes it would only read to 3/4 tank after a fill up. Let the truck sit until the next day and it would show full. Now I just wait until after the fill up to turn the key at all and it shows full right away.
