Like I said it doesn't do this all the time only twice . Im asking cause could it maybe be the gas buoy in the tank maybe is bad?
Leave your ignition switch completely off if you're not already. Try that and see if it fixes the issue.

I used to stay in accessory mode most of the time. Then I noticed sometimes it would only read to 3/4 tank after a fill up. Let the truck sit until the next day and it would show full. Now I just wait until after the fill up to turn the key at all and it shows full right away.
I'm guessing it is a digital vs analog gauge issue based on comments here. Mine always displays correctly whether I have it off during fueling or if I keep it in accessory mode. I almost always put it in accessory mode since I add the fill up to Fuelly and need the mileage, etc.

Mine is XLT. The analog gauge shows 3/4 tank. The digital number showing miles till empty corresponds to analog gauge. It won't show me full mileage range until the analog gauge shows full.

Please tell me what you THINK is wrong with that. I'm all ears.

Let me guess, the sign on the pump that tells you not to use your cell phone while the pump has a built in TV.

I don't live in Oregon or New Jersey. I know how to pump gas without pouring it all over hot or sparky bits.
Greta will use biodegradable bullets and try and gun you down on her electric scooter

Gentlemen an XHellT might have a plastic needle gauge and a Larry might be digital, but they are both fully electronic systems (driven by Ekectrical resistance).

Same with the ignitions, both pusher and key are electronic.

Just to be a pain the key itself and the cylinder are mechanical devices. ?

All the time when I leave it running while I fill up, I know that sign that says 'do not leave engine running while fueling' but when it's cold or hot outside I let it run.
Please. Stop. This.

Many years in petroleum business. Too much gasoline experience. Please. Stop. Seriously. If not for yourself then do it for the others around you.

And the clever engineers at the Ford Motor Company put the exhaust pipe on the opposite side of the truck.
On point, in most states it is illegal to smoke or have the motor running while fueling.

Okay, I'll tell you sure, but really, I'm 61 yrs old, I have seen several bad incidents over the years, especially at racetracks.
Your comment is fair enough, but it's a bit harsh, you have seen the worse I suppose.
When was the last time you saw a fire at a gas pump that wasn't on a video? been 28 years for me.

That had happened on my old '12 Escape a few times before the fuel pump went out. with that vehicle i always ran the tank down till the light came on. after getting the pump replaced I started filling it up at 1/4 tank.

So your fuel pump went out and a symptom is the fuel gauge taking it's time?
