My brother has the title of the world's fastest electric el Camino he built so I'm familiar with these topics.
Hold on, you're going to mention a custom-built EV El Camino, and not provide pictures??

From the article: Dyno testing shows the car’s potential. A session at a local dyno shop produced two results. While in the normal mode, the car pulled 221 horsepower and 421 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. In boost mode, though, the El Camino maxed out the dyno’s capacity, producing at least 800 lb-ft of torque!

“With all three battery packs, it can light up the tires to 40 miles per hour,” Jamieson says.

I've ridden in this thing and it's pretty nuts.

Unlike commuter cars trucks are an awkward EV choice. Like SUVs hybrid makes far more sense. Beyond initial expense the maintenance and ROI of a full-on EV is still marginal with the complications of electric charging thrown in.

I can't imagine long haul freight trucks going EV. Time and freight weight matter in that business. Both big negatives for an EV application.

That is pretty impressive. Congrats to your brother and nephew on the build.

I'm not a fan of ANY F-150 EV truck by Ford that costs almost as much as TWO Rangers AND my travel trailer !!!
im
More like it's a hipster vehicle at best. Most won't tow and rarely haul anything just like ICE trucks. Most trucks are sold now as daily driver family SUV replacement.
100% agree. EV are the new versions of snob yuppie hipster cars.

Astute observation...

I've worked for the Chinese and visited Beijing on several occasions. Two points I would like to make concerning Chinese education:
  1. The Chinese are very serious about education. It is up or out in their school systems. Only the brightest and driven move up. They close down all the streets around their high schools during annual testing periods to eliminate distractions. The top students are honored on network TV like football stars here in the USA. Family honor is at stake. Every student tries. There is no room for goof offs and laziness... they weed out the grifters very quickly. Aptitude testing quickly determines what a person is best suited for.

  2. The Chinese graduate more honor students every year than the US has students. I hired Chinese PhD grads right out of college. Most were first generation out of the rural farm areas. Very bright and conscientious employees. The US will be eclipsed in the next decade or so simply due to the demographics at play.
we have been eclipsed for a while now. Average american college students are so brainwashed with social media and political indoctrination it is simply sad.

What I do not understand, at all, is why there is such a huge difference in "claimed range" between manufacturers ?
Ram claims around 500 miles.
Chevy claims around 400 miles.
Ford claims around 300-320 miles.
Their all basically the same as far as style/body configuration.
Assuming their all testing their trucks using the same parameters...why the difference ?
Do Ram and Chevy use "secret formula" batteries ?
Do Ram and Chevy use unicorn farts to supercharge their batteries?
Inquiring minds want to know !!!
Ford F-150 Lightning’s 300-mile range is with 1,000 lbs of cargo, actual range could be over 400 miles

Everything reads as "may have" or "could have", or "might have".....
Test the damn thing with weight and a trailer, and a full load, at speed, and then get back to us !!!!
Although I may seem down on EV's, they will be part of the future...
But, give them real world tests, and publish them.

Dave, He's referring to the Lightning , not the Ranger.
Have not seen any real world testing of the EV on a comparison basis. As I've posted, hook a 7000 lb trailer up to one, put 4 people in it, load the bed with 500-1000 lbs of camping gear, bicycles, whatever. Get on an x-way at 65 mph, and then give us a range !!!
