I was wonder if there was a difference in internal transmission gear ratios in Ranger, F150 or Mustang. Research shows that they all use the same gear ratios in the 10R80.

Pretty sure the gear ratios are the same across the board. If anything its the final drive and the that change along with the rated torque capacity.

@Msfitoy , I looked through this thread but didn't see if they ever provided you with a confirmed failure diagnosis.

If they did, what was the actual failure in your transmission?

If they did, what was the actual failure in your transmission?

The only code they found was P0731 and based on my description, they determined that I needed either replacement or rebuild...a rebuilt would've costed nearly as much and more time consuming but could've dug up the root causes...as I opted for a new replacement with better warranty, we'll never know what broke up inside the tranny...

Thankfully, they didn't do a 1,000 mile test drive lol...as of today, I'm within another tank and half or <400 miles to go (@AzScorpion, i.e. my next grocery run ? ?)...stand by...looks like my brake pads will easily survive past 100,000 miles...:p

With work sending me to multiple states to do field work with 1,000 mile round trips, I’m hoping to hit the 100k mark before my 5 year anniversary on the truck!

Sid, a few of us are coming…lol you’ve got competition!

Well, the new trans seems to working great, like I remembered when my truck was new...now I'm having a hard time un-training myself for the dreaded anticipating gear slams lol...

But...now, I can't get the service advisor to give me the "3 year unlimited miles" warranty in writing...just keep repeating that the start date for warranty is set and is in their system...am I being taken or given false promise? Is this SOP for dealerships? I do have the advisor's original quote in text which I printed out. What do you guys think? Should I even bother to worry about this?

Make sure you get something in writing. When I had the trans rebuilt on another vehicle, I got a “Limited Warranty: GM Remanufactured Engines and Transmissions” warranty booklet along with a vehicle service printout stating what was done when and when the warranty ended. It even showed previous owner warranty end dates and other services I didn’t even know the vehicle had warranties left on.

I just wrote to the service manager asking for this information...I need this info so I have this record as well as the restrictions that applies...we all know there's always restrictions...tiny print...unlimited miles only applies to flat highway roads and speeds not above 55mph...

I can’t remember which vehicle it was on now, but one of my warranty booklets said “lift kits and tire size modifications” are excluded unless approved by the vehicle manufacturer. So even if the part failed due to poor installation, I’d be out of luck. Hoping this isn’t the case with the Ford transmissions and 3/unlimited warranty…
