Were 2019 Rangers Built Better?

2019 rock solid for 38k miles. Only issue was I recently changed the nearly 4 year old battery. I have owned 7 trucks and this is by far my favorite of them. For me it is a peace of mind it was prepandamic built and I have LED head lights and the other 14 things Ford deleted from Lariats.

Running full synthetic oil changed every 5k miles. Just hope the direct induction turbo motor stays solid 100k+??

2109 are best by far they still have deleted items the aluminum spindles are nice too, look way better. I have Apr/2019 build date absolutely no mechanical issues so far. Bought it 05/2020 during lockdown.

20k plus later in mods and 52k miles best Truck I’ve owned still gets 15-20mpg.

You can basically do anything you want to this truck. And it’s not a completely new truck like Maverick it’s has been around on world market ever since 2011. That’s why there’s some many options to spend your $$$. There were some minor tweaks for NA metal bumpers and some others but still same truck overall. Icon leafs and bump stops were added this weekend and are one of the best things I’ve done for ride quality.

We learned a rather quick and dirty cheat in U-Haul when needing to inspect transmission fluid levels. With engine running for about a minute or two, shift to reverse, then drive, to neutral then reverse and place back in park. You have to let the transmission engage each gear before changing. Gave us a very accurate read on the fluid levels opposed to waiting 15 or more minutes to make sure everything was heated up.

This transmission is not your old TH350. It does not like to be cold. That's why it has a heat exchanger to warm it up. Also explains rough first shifts in the morning, everyone complains about. Operating temp is around 200 degrees F. And yes, it needs to be cycled between gears before checking also. Thermal expandtion of the fluid makes a big difference in level shown.

There was a few issues being a first year run, which is why I never buy first year. But pretty sure they all got fixed if they were effected. Trans issues and blend doors come to mind.

That said, 2019 had all the things that have been deleted over the pandemic, mostly little things but they add up. Things like glove box dampeners, console shifter backlighting, passenger floor mat hooks, embossed “Ranger” in the lariat seats, that kind of small stuff.

When I put my order in for a 500/Tremor this year, there was a 19 CPO 501/FX4 on the floor that I strongly considered, it had it all!!!

I have a '22 Lariat with embossed 'ranger' seats. I means it not stitched but stamped into the leather. Is that what you mean?

I don't have rough first shifts in the morning even when cold and no I don't remote start and let the engine warm up. I do my usual 30 second idle mainly for oil circulation which is turn key grab and buckle, connect the phone adjust HVAC temp and go.

However, the one thing that worries me about it is it's Oct 2020 build date.

Purchased my 2019 Lariat SuperCab in the fall of 2019 currently with over 36,000 miles and have no major mechanical complaints to date. Yes, the vibration inherent with a 4-cylinder engine and the sometimes jerky quirks of the 10-speed take awhile to get used to. It's mostly used to tow our travel trailer in the summer, and for skiing in the winter.

I normally would have avoided a first-year model, but at the moment the Ranger fitted my mission far more capably than the Taco or GM twins and was a far more comfortable ride.

Build date 3/19. Some cold weather dash rattle and a dead battery, but all else is well. 31000 miles so far.

I think my 2019 Lariat SuperCrew was built better and has all the extra parts ford removed from the later models.

Could you do a quick build of your truck for 2023 on Ford's website and see how much more msrp is now than when you bought yours? For some reason, from my research, it appears MSRP is $4000 to $6000 more for MY23 over MY19.

The Ford tune will retain your factory 3/36 if you have it installed by the dealer or a certified mechanic. I liked the Livernois tune because you get all 5 of their tunes to use and see which one you like best. Plus when gas get high you can easily (2-3 minutes) flash over to the 87-89 soft shift to performance tune. The tow tune will adjust to any octane and several really like that one but I didn't care for it. It really makes a huge difference in both power and shifting. Several run theirs very hard and have had zero issues (one had his blow up running a 5 star tune) but of course anything can happen.

The ford tune is a 93 performance tune from Livernois. The newest update ( version 9) removes the skipping of gears and smooths shifts. Definitely worth it. It receives updates around twice a year that I've seen.
