You read my mind lol...Downhillsville...
My best mileage was going from Sacramento to Phoenix. Mostly down hill and a tail wind. I hit 26. On the way up it was up hill and a headwind, only 22

Update: Early October 2021 I spun a rod bearing at 78,000 miles coming down a mountain. Sold the truck to a buddy for what I owed and he put a new motor in it. Ford wanted a bout $10,000 to put in a new motor. I was going to do it myself but my buddy floated me a deal that worked for both of us.

Truly sad to see it gone, but my PowerBoost F150 is better in EVERY way, except that it's a behemoth. Still fits in my garage, though.

Did the dealer have any idea why it happened?

Powerboost is a dream truck for me, some serious $$ though and honestly driving the smaller ranger is so much more enjoyable around town and off road. Drove a E250 extended for 5 years and an Excursion after that so the ranger feels like a race car comparatively lol

I'm at 34k now, owned the truck 21 months so at this rate I'll hit 100k in April 2026.

I think @103 has the lead…

I recently experienced the smell of oil in my AC, so I pulled my oil catch-can and checked my oil. I will edit this post with pictures from the catch-can, but it appears to indicate moisture in the crankcase. A friend suggested I may have a vacuum leak somewhere. I have about 114k miles on my 2019. My last oil change was 4000 miles ago with no issue and almost nothing in the catch can.

If it matters, in that 4000 miles I did spend a week in the Smokeys at highish RPMs (all on road) in cold weather (20s-40s).

Is there a common place one of our motors will develop a vacuum leak over time?
…but I’m pretty sure it’s an automatic DQ for mentioning the smell of oil and catch cans. ;)

Wow, sorry to hear that one. Glad you like your 150 though.

Any idea why it happened?

I didn't let the dealer tear into it, at all. For now, the engine is sitting on the floor of my buddy's shop where he replaced it. When I get home I'm going to tear it apart with my GF so she can get some hands-on with engines.

I had the oil recently changed, it was always changed at the dealer, I paid for the full synthetic, and it was up to temp COMPLETELY. I was engine braking, pulling a trailer, coming down the mountain at about 5000rpm at the time, getting ready to step on the brakes to slow it down. I have gone through this pass before the same way, no issue.

Best I can tell it spun a rod bearing. Never threw a CEL for oil pressure or ANYTHING else. Just knocking hard. I don't feel that I was pushing the engine excessively in any way. If you think so, that's your opinion. I wont entertain comments about it.

The computer was tuned by 5Star who have said to me multiple times that there's no way it's their fault. Ford also claims no fault. It's out of warranty, they can tell me to pound sand.

When my buddy pulled the engine he scoped it and saw the valves looked like the had gotten pretty hot. He says it looked lean.

5 star tunes have been known to have problems at altitude.

And they have blown up multiple motors, Ranger and otherwise.

Well, hate it happened. Glad it all worked out and you like the 150.

If you would, update us after you tear it down.

Best of luck in the 150 world!
