I’m in the process of doing my back brakes and had a quick look and seen the funky setup for handbrake ! Not sure how to release it but from what I can tell there must be a tension adjuster somewhere I’m guessing up front somewhere ! My question is both does the tension need to be released and if so how to get to the tension release which I assume is around the lever up front ! No idea how that is accessed ! Love some help if anyone has some

No idea on your question, but have my own questions:

how many miles on your brakes, what kind of driving style do you do and how badly worn are they?

I have 60000kms on my 2019 and last time i had it serviced they marveled at how little wear my brakes had.

I have 35000 Kms on my 2020 currently ! I think there is about 20 percent of the rear pads left currently !

You need a tool to push and turn the piston.

Tons of cars have this setup. Not typical for trucks at all. But there is a big weight savings not using a drum brake inside the rotor.

Just wanted to add some information since I just completed a rotor and pad replacement on my 2020 Ford Ranger XLT 4WD. There is a tool that is needed to compress the rear brake pistons. If you decide to purchase the tool or rent one, you need to make sure you have one tool for clockwise turning and one tool for counterclockwise turning. The driver rear piston turns counterclockwise and the passenger rear turns clockwise. I have attached photos for reference. Also, the brake caliper themselves have an arrow marking showing the rotation direction of the piston.

Great photos Albert. I’ve often read about how these pistons need a special tool so they can be turned and compressed. This is the first time I’ve seen photos of the tool being used.

Super helpful - thanks for posting this.
