Damn you guys ! Had my hood up yesterday to see if I could get to the back of the grille (gona try and wrap the FORD part on the grille) and saw that damn yellow dipstick laughing at me and just daring me to check it ... no way Jose , I ain't pulling the "stick of delusion " nothing good can come from it ... nope , don't care what it looks or smells like so I'll just smile, shut the hood , and move on .... ehhhh, it's at the mark and kinda smells like gas ... hate this thread...

I did a thing today.

Stopped for gas, shut it down - did the card thing, selected the grade. started it going... got about 20 bux in.. so like half a gallon. Call that less than 5 minutes.. maybe right at by the time I got the stick out. Anyway, at that point I went to check the oil: WAY too soon per the book. It is enough time for other engines I own.. not this one.

Oil was up over the twist.. Panic? Some might if they don't know how weird this motor is with its freaking dipstick.

I put the dipstick back in and took it home. Started a timer.

Unloaded some mulch; sprayed some weed killer. 15 minutes passed.

Oil is sitting slightly over the full mark where the dealer put it on the last oil change about 3k miles ago.

So far it looks like my HPFP and injectors are good. However, if I didn't know the book says to wait (or check it cold like a few have recommended) I would think I was WAAYY over... like I saw at the gas station.

I would have been in a blind panic about the fuel increasing my oil level and messing up my bearings, etc.

I am pretty sure this horse has been beaten. Some have a real problem (stuff leaking) but please check the book on how to check the oil and confirm you do it that way. Seems silly, but it really matters on this thing. Life is stressful enough.

So I was unfamiliar with the fuel in oil issue until it was too late apparently. Started hearing knocking on my way to work and then on the way home it got much louder and sounded like ball bearings were bouncing around the engine! Went straight to the dealer and the oil was way high. Currently the truck is sitting and cant get looked at until October. The truck only has 16k miles on it and the oil was changed every 5k.

What were your driving habits? Do you only drive for short 3-5 mile trips? How often did you drive it 50 miles or more at a time?

Your mileage would suggest a recent oil change if you change every 5k. When did you last change it and who did it? Do you check your oil between changes and have you ever noticed rising levels? Any modifications to your truck?

At least it is still under warranty.

Did the dealer confirm that it was due to oil dilution? I would put money on Ford deny that engine failure was due to oil dilution.

be sure to share the dealer documents with us and what they tell you so if other members have the issue come up we can have a "leg" to stand on if we must face the situation also. I hope they get you taken care of and back on the road soon!

So far the truck is just sitting at the dealer. They plan to start on it next week. The service manager said he was familiar with the Rangers having the fuel in oil problem.

I was literally calling to set up my next oil change this week. So I was at the end of my approx. 5k miles. I checked the oil level maybe once or twice between changes and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary until now. Leveling kit, but no engine mods.

UPDATE: Dealer said no fuel found in the oil and no metal in the oil. They think it may be the timing chain tensioner that failed. They are replacing the timing chain and tensioner to see if that's the fix. If not they are continuing to follow the Ford flow chart of diagnosis. To be continued....

Any explanation for the oil being “way high”?

No, they just said that was not an issue. It was probably a 1/2" up the twist on the dipstick.
