45,000 on my OEM Hankooks and still have about 30% of the tread. All tires are even, no cupping or balance issues. I'm fine with the Hankooks, but won't replace them with the same tires. I also recommend getting an alignment when new tires are installed. And not from a dealer, but from a business that specializes in alignment.

Rotation. It takes a number of miles for a tire to "set." Many people have no problems with "Xing" when rotating, but think about what you are asking the tire to do. There is a crown on every road and that means right side tires experience more of the crown than left. When you "X" them the tire now runs the opposite direction and is open for issues because the tire also has to "reset" from one side to the other. Yes the distance is small, but this can cause balance and wear problems. I rotate front to rear only on the same side and have never had an issue of any kind.
What’s interesting is that the manual recommends the X rotation.

i had a passionate discussion with a service writer about this until I retrieved the manual that came with my truck and she stated “ well Ford is wrong “

im in the X camp and as in life “ too each his or her own “

Agreed - Modified 'X' rotation (cross to the rear) for me with my Ranger and 300. My previous Mercury Marauder required 'side to side' rotation as the rear tires were larger than the front.

After I made my post I wanted to make sure that’s BFG recommends as I replaced the OEM tires with KO2’s and sure enough for a RWD &. 4 wheel and AWD Vehicles they recommend the Right pattern in your photo with three choices. I’m following BFG’s guidance in the event I have an issue can I reply “ I was following your guidance “

I'VE NEVER HAD AN OUNCE OF PROBLEMS WITH MY HANCOOKS. I SURE HOPE THAT WHEN YOU ARE ROTATING THEM YOU ARE ONLY DOING BACK TO FRONT AND NOT CHRIS CROSS CAUSE THAT WILL CAUSE A CUPPING PROBLEM ON JUST ABOUT ANY RADIAL TIRE.
Why are you yelling  Turn your caps lock off.

Here's how I rotate the tires, it's pretty well documented as the correct way...

UPDATE 10-06-2022:

Had (4) Michelin LTX A/T2 265/65/R17 tires installed on our 2019 XL FX4. These replaced the Hankook LT's that came on the truck new as a dealer ordered option.

Amazing how much better the truck rides.

We had them perform a wheel alignment, I asked for a printout showing the before and after settings to help determine how bad out of alignment the truck was..... the dealership botched that and didn't give me the before alignment configuration...

Next visit, tell her you want the Full rotation: dismount each tire and remount using the X pattern, while putting each wheel back in its original position

I'd talk to the service manager. If anybody at the dealership is not following the owner's manual specifications, they need to put what they are doing in writing and sign it.

Glad you like these tires better. For cupping specifically you should see how those FX4 shocks are holding up. Cupping can occur if the shocks are worn out and I'd hate for your new tires to end up like the old ones.

This is a really good thought.

The factory FX-4 suspension is very much underdamped in my opinion. So much so that rears felt basically shot when removed, despite no visible leakage.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye on the new tires for wear.

The Hankooks were cupped because the front end alignment from the factory was way off. And by way off I mean way off.

Check out how much they had to crank the eccentrics to get the truck within specifications:

I filed a claim with Ford about how bad out of alignment the truck was from the factory, and how that lead to the premature tire wear. I included the photo's I posted above of the eccentrics.

We found out yesterday Ford is sending us $658.

If I run the numbers in regard to how quick the tires wore out, I'd say Ford Corporate has treated us right. I'm kind of surprised.

And the new Michelin LTX A/T2 tires provide so much of a nicer ride than the Hankook's... so we can chalk this entire experience up has having a good final outcome.

Henry that is a pretty good outcome. You ended up with better tires too.
