What D Fresh said :sunglasses:

I'll acknowledge the Hankooks got me through some icy roads in Oklahoma and snow in Eastern Oregon as I brought my truck home from Georgia in February last year. Yeah, they were slightly better than most all seasons on my other vehicles. BUT compared to a dedicated snow tire. We are talking apples to oranges. I run Nokian snow tires on my Ranger and can usually get up and over snowy passes with only engaging 4WD at the top mile or two of the pass. This truck is more unstoppable with proper snow tires than my Subarus are with their snow tires. Although the Nokians are by far the best snow tire I've used (and I've tried about 6-8 different popular ones).
I think you hit the nail on the head.

Snow performance of the 'kooks reminds me of a decent quality, not even good, all season passenger car tire.

There are plenty of AT tires that are great in the snow. You don't even have to go with a dedicated snow tire. But of course that will give you the best performance.

My fx4 came with Hankook 265/65/17 ATMs. The Hankook ATs are an optional upgrade.
imho The ATM are ATs. I used them as such on my old Ranger for years and was happy… maybe u have another incarnation overseas.

The OEM Hankooks might not be perfect, but they've definitely withstood their fair share of adventures over the past 2 years. Treadwear looks excellent at 22,000 miles.
@Todd Chapin These are exactly the tyres they sold me as ATs several years ago.… and the performance was like stufus describes.

U had to try the Continetal ATs. THAT are the worst tyres u can get for a truck. Wet feels like ice with them so u better not use them in snow.

I've ran those Hankooks (or similar, same tread pattern) on a 2001 Ranger and my JK for a while. They held air for probably 15 or so years (i'm not sure, but i got them at 1/2 tread on my 01 ranger and I ran them until bald on my JK). Never gave me an issue, and even wore pretty much perfect. They were great in sand, but pretty much any balding AT will be great in sand. Pretty loud on the road, but it was a soft-top jeep, so whatever. They were OK offroad in non sand.

I've got MT Baza MTZ's now on the JK. Worse in sand, but It's probably just because they've got more tread. Absolutely beast-mode offroad, those tires hook up to everything. Absolutely obnoxious on the highway, but again, it's a Jeep so it drove like shit on the highway stock anyway. It's not like there's much lower it could go haha!

I bought a set of the Continental AT Contacts for my previous truck on recommendation of a Ytube tire guy...Good guy by the way.....
Boy, was i disappointed, probably the worst tires for wet traction I ever had. I knew they werent 3 peak snow rated but figured I'd give them a shot. Regretted buying them.
Just my experience

No matter how much you yell, the ATMs will always be garbage in the snow.

If you think they're good you've never had proper tires in the snow.
SIGHT IMPAIRED, I LIVE UP HERE IN THE GREAT WHITE NORTH, LOTS OF SNOW, HANCOOKS HAVE NEVER LET ME DOWN. I NOTICE THAT MOST RESPONSES ON THIS SITE ALWAYS SEEM TO INCLUDE AN INSULT OR PERSONAL ATTACK.

Tire conversations are like oil conversations, maybe worse. Everyone is different and everyone has different conditions and expectations. Tires are at best a compromize there is no one tire that will be the best at everything. The tire I think is great for MY use in Wisconsin is probably the worst tire for YOUR use in Arizona or SOMEONE ELSES in Florida. So lets all be nice and respect each others opinions. I agree a lot of the threads lately have gotten a little personal.

Where did I personally attack you? It is widely accepted that typing in all caps is the online equivalent of yelling and somewhat rude.

If you are sight impaired you don't have to type in all caps. You can simply use the font tool above to make your font bigger.

Like This.

As far as your opinion on the Hankook's snow performance, you're entitled to your opinion, even if it's wrong.

Here are some exerpts from TireRack's reviews on the ATMs.

They have no traction
No traction whatsoever on ice, snow, wet, or even dry roads that have grit on them from snow plows. No front end grip at all on basically anything but perfectly dry clean tarmac and I pretty much have to drive in 4x4 anywhere or the rears will spin anytime you touch the gas
These tires are ok in dry condition. But in slush and in snow they don't steer well and have no traction at all
Never had a tire so bad on snow or wet roads
The tire also gave very poor traction in light snow and very poor traction in wet grass and mud.
Traction wet, dry, light snow, mud and dirt is terrible.
downright dangerous in any sort of winter conditions. I have been caught in a early snow storm with my summer only tires and they provided more traction on snow covered roads than these all season Hankook's do

Just one note - opinions, by definition cannot be wrong. And everyone has their own unique experiences, so lighten up a bit.....

In my experience, the Hankooks are good for one thing, and one thing only - MPG. Other than that, I had pretty poor experience with them on traction in mud and snow - but they did get better MPG than the Toyo AT3's I replaced them with (and I love these tires).

Of course. My attempt at a joke would have been more clear with a ;)

However, there are some opinions that ARE wrong, like flat earthers. Believing that these tires are good snow performers is bordering on one of those.

I guess it is being highly pedantic, but a person's OPINION cannot be wrong- what you BELIEVE can be wrong, but the opinion itself cannot be wrong. Its kind of like a feeling - you can't tell someone what they are feeling is wrong - it is what it is.

SO YOU CAN TOLERATE LARGE FONT BUT NOT SMALL FONT CAPS?

I get what you're saying. But still disagree. An ill formed opinion is simply a wrong one.

Feelings can be wrong just the same.

For example, somebody feeling slighted just because another points out simple ettiquete.

It's not a matter of my tolerance.

It's a thing called common courtesy.

You got a little butthurt at me telling you there's no need to yell. As if I'm supposed to know that you have vision problems?

Do what you like. Go around yelling everything at everybody if you like. But getting all twisted up over somebody assuming you're yelling is silly.
