I do my own, but my friend Tommy was a faithful customer until after his last oil service by JL (and I do mean LAST). He spotted a small oil spot under the truck and crawled under to discover a rubber drain plug instead of the factory unit. Turns out JL had stripped his drain plug and replaced it with a "universal" rubber plug without telling him.

Me and a couple buddies basically ran the local JF when we were in highschool. Our manager was a meth addict who was infrequently there.

I do my own oil changes unless I'm halfway across the country and really need it.

Time to drive there, time home, plus 20 minutes in line. I’d have found the time to do it.

I've always been leery of those places. It's where my wife always went and I couldn't convince her not to. Until one of them failed to adequately secure her oil drain plug and all that fresh oil drained into the driveway.

I used one for my state inspection once when I lived in TX. They lost a brake caliper bolt after checking my brake pad wear (I guess), and by the time I found the source of the noise, the other caliper bolt had nearly worked itself off.

I don't enjoy working on engines anymore, so I'd rather pay someone else to do it. But I'd DIY before having a quick lube place do the job.

You could've done your own oil change in that 20 minutes easily...the last time Jiffy Lube changed my wife's suv, they left the oil cap off sitting on the engine...

They might be complaining about the initially installed factory filter. It is impacted on very tight and you need the right kind of wrench. After that though the rest come off by hand.

Question...What is the difference between the "initial" factory filter and a new OEM ford replacement? I just had my mechanic change mine at 5000 miles on my 2022 and they looked identical.

It's the same filter just the first one from the factory was super tight and I couldn't loosen by hand so I needed a specific 3-claw wrench to get it off. My regular oil filter wrenches did not work.
