Ok not my idea, ordered a Maverick hybrid lariat loaded, it was supposed to be my wife’s truck. She’s fallen out of love with it since we ordered last September. It’s now built and in shipping.

She asked if I want to trade my 2021 Ranger Lariat FX4, Rapid Red with black appearance package.. My first thought is hell no.

We’re aged people and off-road really hurt’s her back from multiple spinal fusion surgery’s . I know I don’t want to do It but just tossing it out there. I’m just trying wrap my head around the idea… she’s wanting to keep her Hyundai 2017 Santa Fe sport AWD instead… IDK..

I don't have an opinion either way, but your first instinct is often the right one. However, if you have the chance to test drive a Maverick hybrid before yours is delivered it might help cement your decision.

I like the Maverick. You will likely appreciate the seat height at entry and exit. Same for the bed height with the tailgate down and when reaching in over the bedsides. The truck has a lot of utility. Of course you like your Ranger, but the Maverick is a good alternative and will likely grow on you.
Even though you own the Ranger, depreciation is depreciation. I know the market is still a little off right now. Trading in or selling the Ranger may or may not make sense.

I would wait for a Hybrid Ranger.. that way you can maybe moved some accessories over, wheels, Tcover, grille.. maybe... and still feel like you're in your good ol' Ranger and not a compromise.

You do what needs to be done to keep the wife happy. It cost me two years to figure it out when I bought a loaded civic for my wife with all the bells and whistles and safety features. Two years later we traded it for a sporty Si with no tech and manual transmission. She is in love and happy everyday. That means I am now.

Are you out of your mind? lol j/k

I do agree (if it's an option) with those who said to try the Maverick for a while before making this decision. This way you can see for yourself how comfortable (or uncomfortable) it is driving it and if you like a lower truck. Not everyone needs a mid size truck now and maybe the Maverick will suite you both much better.

I've never driven one but have seen several around and while they're a nice truck it's just not something for me right now. I'd much rather wait it out for the PHEV Ranger and that's about the only thing out there right now that would get me to sell mine. Also the used market has cooled off but you're still going to get more selling your Ranger privately than trading it in. Tough decision you have there Andy but either way you know you'll never be able to leave here. We'll all come over to the Maverick forum and haunt you until you come back.?

I originally was going to get a Maverick but waited too long and the 4K tow package was no longer available. I love our Ranger but ...

There's a lot going for the Maverick. The latest tech for safe and comfy driving. Far easier to get in and out of (my wife has serious back issues and a bad leg from cancer (she's in remission)).

So a Maverick would have been a smoother ride and easier to get in and out of. Plus better gas mileage.

The biggest thing, for me, would be bed size, payload, and tow capacity. We use the bed like nuts, but it's for dump runs and kayaking. I could accomplish the same with the Maverick but would need more trips to the dump (not a bad thing, for me!), and more care in packing up from our kayaking trips. I can be a real slob and literally toss all the gear back in without any fussing.

But I don't think you can go wrong with the Maverick.

Do I love my Ranger? Yes, very much and I'm happy to have it. But I did need to add side steps, mod the seating with Seat Jackers, add a bed step, and burn a lot more gas.

So all that to say, I think we'll still love you if you make the swap, just make sure to remove and frame your damper! (if you don't have a damper, some of us here might be judgy!). =)

Yeah I am behind the suggestions to test drive one and make your own mind up.
I'd give my 2 cents but goes against my credo.

Maverick Lariat with the 2.0 Ecoboost, every bell and whistle would be the only way to go. A FWD hybrid? Only after civilization collapses….?

Having been able to finally get up close and personal with a Maverick, the bed is way too small. I gave the Maverick as a second option to my wife but she didn't care for the looks. It really did not off more space than what my Grand Cherokee had for luggage except for maybe a cubic foot or two.

Also the other huge factor is the Hybrid does not have any real towing capability. Ford had unfortunately figured out a little too late that trying to tow 4K lbs with a Hybrid or a FWD in general strained the drivetrain. So if you are wanting to actually tow stay with the Ranger.

I really wanted to like the maverick with 40mpg and all but I am making a compromise with the ranger, the maverick would be too much of a compromise for me. My truck identifies as a 1 ton with an 8ft bed. The maverick would not be able to pull that off.

However if I didn't leave the pavement regularly and loaf it to its limits a few times a month I would be all over the maverick. XLT awd was my choice.
