I think the stock tires look too small.
What's a larger size but still safe with everything? 32" tall max?
so with a 3.5 suspension lift u can clear 315 70 r 17 with the proper wheel offset mine are stock bronco sasquatch wheels and tires +30 offset. you will need to cut the crash bars or maybe do low profile ones but I cant speak to that. Like the op I am of the doctrine that bigger will be harder to get into the cab and honestly if i die i die but at least I looked cool doing it lol. Just to put you at ease as well the bronco sasquatch is also lacking crash bars as are quite literally every rocky ridge truck yet those still meet crash and safety requirements so I think a lot of the ppl here are being dramatic. That being said its your life and you alone have to live with the consequences of your actions so take that info with a grain of salt

actually with crash bar removal the 35's fit with a 2.5 you just cant use the last 15 percent of ur turn radius lol I was dealing with that for a while while I waited for my lift to come in drive thru's and u turns were an absolute nightmare but I still took it out offroad and apart from having the turn radius of an aircraft carrier it actually did really good
I understand you can get some pretty beefy tires in there when you start cutting/removing parts, but the guy asked specifically for the " safe " limit which even if I don't quite agree with the prevailing wisdom/opinions here about the safety factor that is understood as having intact stock crash bars. The limit on tires without rubbing with that known is a just shy of 33". In the 18" wheels it a 265/70/18 and in 17s its 265/75/17 or 285/70/17, IIRC the recommended 17s specs ( I have 18s on mine with the stock black package wheels so I know the 18" one is correct).

Jumped up to 34's. These do measure true 34" at 33.99" from BFG.

Lift : Leveled, Running Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2, currently.

Wheels: Method 305. 17x9 0 offset.

Tires: BF Goodrich KO2 285/75R 17.

Mods: Crash Bar delete, egg crates removed from behind wheel wells.

No rubbing, unless I pull into a driveway turning really hard.

34s are a pain to fit i will say that! i had had them on my tacoma and it was a load of work! lots of cutting and hitting with a hammer haha so if thats all you did to make them fit for road ridding thats so much nicer haha

lets see some front on pics to see the poke and such!

Want to stay safe but have the look so many desire? So many here have answered that….265/70R17 with Fox Ford Performance coilover shocks on stock wheels - that’s the safe zone without untested modifications. Tremors have this setup.

Get that suspension installed by a Ford tech and your warranty should also be fine. Departing from what Ford is doing always comes with risks. Many of us are willing to take them but you asked what’s “still safe”. So, those are my two cents.

Hey Robert - take a look at a Tremor or @AzScorpion ’s truck (Dave has different coilovers but the same effect as the FPP). That little bit of extra circumference and the aggressive tread fills in the wheel well nicely.

Mine are the next size up and with aftermarket wheels and Fox coilovers set at 2” - it still required changes to the crash bars, which I would have preferred not doing. So, not “still safe”.

I'm sure Ford conserns of a 30" tire going into the cab are a consern. However once your getting to a 34" tire, that's a lot of tire to push into the cab. It's like trying to fit a much bigger object through a smaller hole. I do plan on trying to get aftermarket crash bars back in. Older cars have none of this.

I understand it's at my own risk.
It's not just the tire intruding on the cabin - its the entire cabin structure getting crushed in an accident. Older cars don't have a lot of things and a lot of people got hurt driving them.

Your money your move man. Cool truck.

You could also do the aftermarket ones, the reason I discount them is as I said not only do several broncos not have them from the factory but also every single rocky ridge truck has them removed so ford clearly considers it safe to have them removed but again take it with a grain of salt

yuuup ive seen it on the toyota side as well when it comes to fitting larger tires where you have to cut into the cab mount and modify it orrr if you are going very large and still want flex you have to tub the cab... most people stop once they hear about that... i never tubbed my cab but i did beat the crap out of it for clearance and cut the cab mount a lot lol

You can get a bit bigger than 33" with the bars intact on factory wheels if you stay skinny. My 255/80 17's are listed at 33.1".

the ranger is good i will not lie and i like mine a lot buuut the tacoma will always out flex a ranger it has longer suspension so it will be more capable offraod now 3rd gen tacomas dont have to tub the cab they can fit 35s with a cab mount chop and a small lift. 2nd gens are the pain in the ass ones because of how the fender is designed
