Battery replaced just in time

My bumper to bumper expires on August 19. My battery has been acting up over the last couple weeks. Auto start/stop not functioning, even after a long drive. I'd put the battery on the charger and it would start at 25% , then take quite a while to charge fully. A load test with my tester failed, so I took it to the dealer. They agreed with my findings and I now have a shiny new battery! Just in time.

It's always good to have them checked before you 3/36 is up I had mine replaced at 18 months and I know Chis @Chris M had his replaced on his first Ranger. Also keep them on a maintainer if you don't drive them a lot or if you don't drive many miles. There's always something drawing power from the truck and even though it'll go into deep sleep mode after 14 days it still puts stress on the battery. Especially (not your case) if you live in hot climates.

Driving a lot definitely prolongs battery life. I do 500 miles a week and I have had batteries last up to 10 years. It’s the sitting and the short hops that kill them. A battery tender makes a huge difference in life. Even solar ones are not too bad.

I've had mine 3.5 years now and 60k miles. I guess i should expect mine to fail soon.

Some get lucky and the last for years. If you drive a lot and put on a decent amount of miles they see to last longer. Autozone has free battery checks so it's a good idea to have them checked regularly so there's no unexpected surprises.

Yeah, my auto start/stop quit working a few months ago. Truck's 3rd birthday is August 30. I'm gonna wait until just before then and have the battery replaced. I've gotten used to the ASS and actually kinda miss it. Gas prices have gotten much better lately but I'd still rather not burn fuel when I don't need to. (saves more for my 11 mpg Mustang...lol)

And don't use a 1968 100CCA tester on a modern 950CCA battery.....

I had a old 4 amp trickle charger I’d hook up to it but the charge still would not stay charged to the point where the ASS would activate for more than 2 days. Then I started to do some research on AGM batteries and found they need a different style of charger to properly maximize and maintain them. (Who Knew)

I bought a Cteck MXS 5.0 charger from Amazon and ran it on the recondition setting 3 times and it appears to have solved that problem. It’s stayed top charged for a month now and I haven’t changed my driving habits so I call that a success.
Bythe way, I don’t like the ASS system but it’s a great feature to tell if my battery isfully charged or not.

My Battery Tender seems to do the job. Performed the quarterly battery maintenance cycle on Ranger overnight; do the same for my Chrysler tonight (flooded battery). Battery is in the trunk under the floor....

Yeah don't get enough charge on em and they start draining, we use it for our boat as well makes a huge difference. You don't want dead batteries when you are launching and start floating away from the trailer either

I hate when companies design stuff like that, what is going through their head that they say ooh I know lets put the battery under the floor of the trunk! and then that idea gets past several layers of approval.

Despite all the nannies ford puts in to prevent killing the battery you could probably still get around them...

That is exactly what it is and does. I have the CTEK (I bought when struggling with battery life issues on my last truck that had modern “battery management SW”) and it did exactly what @Sparky2 explained. The CTEK’s get great reviews which I have found to be pretty well founded.
