Seems like it would just be easier and faster to buy headlights light the alpha rex ones that have the DRL always on

Just open the headlight switch up and add a stop in there so it's only 3 positions instead of 4 (blocking off access to OFF). Simple :D

I wish my RS's headlight off setting was like the Ranger's and turned off the DRLs.

In addition to “always on” DRLs, as of September 2021 the Canadian Vehicle Lighting Regulation requires that all new vehicles sold in Canada have one of the following:
  • tail lights that come on automatically with daytime running lights
  • headlights, tail lights, and side marker lights that turn on automatically in the dark
  • a dashboard that stays dark to alert the driver to turn on the lights
How do we get that in all of the US too, there are too many ID10T card holding drivers here to not have that.

I like this idea of the truck ”knowing” where it is - I really do. It would be great for truckers, vacationers and those who live here but work in the U.S. and vice versa. Yes, that’s a thing for a bunch of different professions. Nurses from Windsor working in Detroit, for example - all legit. Being able to flash a vehicle wirelessly would be pretty cool. As long as there’s something to guarantee the accuracy of the system.

When I lived near the Canada-U.S. border, my cell phone would often connect with towers in Blaine, WA when I was making local calls in White Rock, BC. Roaming and Long Distance charges would have to be reversed by my carrier. o_O

Weed laws? You’d be as happy as a clam (a baked clam) here because we kinda don’t have any. ?

Isn't that an option in the settings menu on the dash? Let me take a look.
I think what they are saying is Canadian law requires the DRL's to be on always regardless of the light switch position. On US Rangers, the DRLs will only function in the AUTO position, if DRLs are selected from the Driver info display menu.

Yep, in Canada they must be on all the time the ignition is on.
Turn light switch to park lights - DRLs on
Turn it to headlamps - DRLs on
Turn it to Auto - DRLs on
Turn it to off - still on

I’d bet that if you cut the harness to the switch and pull the fuse, they’ll still be on. :)

I did try that and didn't notice any difference. I'm also not 100% sure what the conditions are for the DRLs to even come on in a car with them fully enabled (Canada-style). Truck running, or just in the "on" position? Does the parking brake need to be disengaged? Sounds like they don't work in Park, so I tried with the truck in Drive and Neutral, but so far I haven't found anything that works.

I think I need to start over from zero and try each setting one at a time. But then I wonder if I need a combination of settings. :)

I'm about to head out of town though, but thankfully I also got an extension from RIV on registering my vehicle in Canada.
So did you have any success reconfiguring DRL to always stay on? I too am importing my (US-spec) ‘20 Ranger and can’t pass inspection until I can get it changed. I went to a Ford dealership who contacted Ford engineers - they replied with “The Programmable Parameters list in section 418-01 of the Workshop Manual does not show Daytime Running Lamps. Since the Daytime Running Lamps are not configurable under Programmable Parameters, it will be necessary for the customer to seek an aftermarket solution for this concern”.

I find it hard to believe that despite Rangers being built for both US and Canadian markets that Ford has essentially told me there is nothing they can do. I’m concerned the RIV program has indicated Fords are admissible, and even told me to approach Ford to have the DRL reconfigured, and Ford has washed their hands of it. I wonder if there is a solution but the first query to Ford engineers was simply they couldn’t be bothered with the nuisance.

in any event, I’m running out of time to satisfy RIV that my DRL will stay on all the time. Has FORSCAN worked for you?

It's odd that Ford doesn't have this as the default - every other car I've been in in the past decade is set to always have them on. The only way to have my VW running and not have them on is when the parking brake is set.

They’ll need to add a new BCM parameter “Canada DRL” because with what is there it’s not happening. I was messing with Forscan yesterday and none of the options will allow the DRL to work on light switch off position.

Actually Canada should be pushing back on Ford that this is a requirement for vehicles built for Canadian customers or sold in Canada. That takes the burden of obeying the law off the owners of these vehicles.

That's what makes it so odd; Ford clearly has to have this has a configuration option since they're selling these trucks up there. I find it hard to believe that they are actually switching parts during assembly because that would add to production cost and slowdown - there has to be a way to update software somewhere.

Or the whole switch module needs to be swapped out with one that is internally wired different than US versions.
