Gas taxes up 3 cents more in California July 1-

Not to make matters worse but isn't Ca's gas tax .68? I'm in Pa and we are at .59.

In Va, our gas tax is 36.8 cents, and gas in my area is averaging $4.45 per gallon for regular.
I mow my lawn at least once a week due to the rain we get weekly, and I can use my "gas" powered mower and lawn tractor without fear of Va trying to get rid of IC engines.
I sit on my patio of my affordable home in 80 degree weather, and do not worry about black/brown outs, run my ac 24/7 if I wish to, and pay my monthly electric bill of under $200 (usually $180). If I want a beach there are several CLEAN public lakes nearby with beaches (no worry about a Great White getting me)

I don't think it's anywhere near enough to offset the higher housing cost then factor in the highest taxes in the country.

It's not, but there are many factors, including one's chosen business. Where else can I make as much $ selling wine besides Chicago or NYC? Chicago has much worse weather, and little outdoor activities for me to enjoy in comparison (being outdoors is another large factor to my happiness index) and NYC has worse housing costs than CA with more bad weather, and less outdoor activities.

If I was to go through the struggle of a complete change in my line of work, then of course it makes sense to move to a "better" state. Compiling goods, however, is not what makes me happy.

1. Enjoy what I do every day (my line of work)
2. Enjoy things outside (weather)
3. Money

Since money is lower on the list it makes sense for me to be here, where it costs more money to be. Not everyone is the same and I respect and encourage that.

Four people in my office transferred to Florida about ten years ago. Two of them are complaining about the massive growth in Florida an one is moving back.

Gov policies are a major driver of cost of living in California. They don't want development. They fight it so existing home values skyrocket to being unaffordable to lots of people. Now many local governments there have or want to ban individual houses an only approve multi tenant development. They also fight new roads so that restricts growth. I think if the state were managed better it would be more affordable.

Nope he's wrong it's terrible. The entire Central Coast is a terrible place to be. San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego are much better options.

Fla is almost as bad as Ca now. They should let Disney buy up the entire state, bulldoze it under and make one giant amusement park out of it.
I grew up, worked as a sheriff in So. Fla, but because of good $$$ and a great state retirement, I stayed, put my time in, and retired at 47 years old with a full pension.
Wife and I left the month after I retired and have not been back since 1997. Couldn't pay me enough to go back.

One of the advantages of the US is the diversity of states. Like I said if I were wealthy I'd at least spend some time in California. I recently retired an on what I saved an an get monthly if I wanted warm weather an beautiful beaches I'd look at moving to Mississippi or Alabama. I used to live in Northwest Florida but it's grown an gotten more expensive. I'm pretty happy here in an affordable area with a "great lake" to get some boating an fishing an some small ski areas for winter sports an being near the grandkids. Someday I may spend a month or two in the winter in the south.

Yep, the people recalled him last year, but he survived. I'd bet Newsom and / or Kamela Harris are just making and laying ground work for a presidential run. They would suck at it.

Trying to push people into EV's....then when 25% of the population is in EV's they'll realize they just lost 25% of their gas tax revenue........then they'll create an EV charging tax.

Here in Va. you pay the state for every vehicle that gets better than 25MPH (or something) as advertised by the mfg. It's a high efficiency vehicle fee.
