Hey all. Got the rears of the Fox 2.0 kit on super easy. When disconnecting the swaybar end links from the spindle for the front, the nut just spins.

I watched a few videos and it seems most people use a small impact to get it off. I don't have a small one, just one with 1400ft-lbs of take-off torque. Before I put that beast on that nut, I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't mess it up if I used the big impact. Or is there an easier way to do it?

For reference, the instructions just say to "disconnect" the sway bar, with no mention on how to get the nut off or keep it from spinning. The swaybar end link that would be in the red circle.

Use an Allen key in the bolt to keep it from spinning. box wrench on the nut, Allen in the bolt.
What he said, but I had better luck with an open end wrench due to the bolt being inset into the knuckle.

Yup you have to use an Allen key with a wrench.

An impact can damage the ball joint and boot.

Saw the allen and didn't even think about using that, thanks!

Or, use a pass-through ratchet and an Allen key - less chance of slipping off the nut like you could with the open-end wrench.

I didn't recommend this, because most people do not own these.

But they are epic.

They are epic. And so worth the money, even if you only ever need it once for applications like this and for those times when a deep socket just isn’t deep enough.

Even a cheapo set will get you out of a jam.

or... in my case... only a broke mofo doesn't have the right tool to use... I spent all my money on truck parts, I gotta make do with the tools already in my box.

With every project I do I realize that I need another tool. Great way to expand my toolbox, greater way to go broke. That's part of the fun though isn't it!

since we're way off topic now (whoops) I had to buy a rivet gun AND a rivnut gun to install my snorkel. I didn't know there was a difference, but now I do...

Luckily, I went to school to be a mechanic and I bought a big old Craftsman 'mechanic starter set'. I still have almost all those tools (sockets have gone missing). It was surprisingly comprehensive and I can get most jobs done with the tools included. They aren't always the easiest tool for the job, but they work.
