It was 11 deg. F this am, but warmed up to 31 this afternoon, not bad for NE PA, but still below freezing. So I invested 9 quarters in the self-wash and got rid of the crud. Then applied Bead Maker, not bad, quick and dirty, errr, clean. Coincidentally PirateMail showed up today and now Wolf is in the Haus. That's getting installed now. Gotta beat that rascally groundhog before he screws us into 6 more weeks of winter. Apologies to KNI and others not familiar with our prognosticating rodent! Do you guys down south have groundhogs? In PA Dutch, my grandfather called them grundsow...

The green party has been promising 40 years that the CO2 levels will increase, temperatures will raise by 4 to 8 degrees and there would be no more snow in the winters. I would say that they do nothing but lie. It's -10'C, we have a meter of snow and more in falling and I've yet to see a green winter.

I'll stop voting those liars.

The Wolf (not the one that ate the groundhog) has landed/installed, before the sun set! ...slight bedliner trim req'd...no problemo!

Thanks for the reply, Dave. If I recall correctly, it was actually a picture of your setup with the hardwired connection that got me thinking about the battery; which in turn led me to discover the battery saving feature on these trucks. Most of my driving is short trips around town, and we’re currently in tourist season so it’s constant stop-n-go traffic everywhere. So I agree, it think the battery just isn’t getting fully charged and the auxiliary stuff gets cut. Hopefully, tomorrow morning everything will fire up from the get-go. Lol, if the tender ends up solving the issue I’ll probably be asking you for some tips on hardwiring.

I think you’re spot on about the PowerSteps drawing a lot of juice. I also use the fob remote start about 95% of the time, and I would imagine that’s contributing to my problem.

I’ll be curious to see if you run in to any temporary issues with the steps not deploying/retracting after getting the “remote features disabled” notification. Mine got stuck the next day, but like I said it resolved in 10-15 minutes.

Again, thank you both for the replies….and have a great evening.
Matt
You might wanna look into changing the BMS battery charge level if you have ForScan. IIRC it's set very low from factory, like 75%.

I love how in the video they simply glaze over the getting in there and actually releasing the clips. One second it's on and magically the next frame it's off with the text saying simply push and remove the clip.

No F'ing way.

This removal and install was much more challenging than removing the hard to get to 3rd bolt on the down pipe. That was a walk in the park compared to this.
Right? Reminds me of the Stage 3 video for installing a level kit where the part when they separated the CV and cursed for an hour trying to get it back in was edited out. ?

Thanks for the suggestion. That might be my next step. I have Forscan but I haven’t tinkered around with it yet.

Having said that, charging and maintaining the battery overnight didn’t solve my radar detector issue, it still took about 10-15 minutes to power on this morning. So now I’m wondering if has to do with the battery….or if it’s an issue with the detector. It’s a “smart” radar detector, which I understood to mean that it learns where the false alarms, cameras etc are and stores the info. But as I write this I’m wondering if also adapts to my driving patterns….which would explain the delay in powering on. Gonna have to do a little more research tonight.

Battery related question: I leave my new AA Wireless adapter and wireless charger plugged in to the 2 USB outlets in the front tray. Aren't these only on for a short time after turning the truck off? Will this drain my battery in our cold weather? Sorry if this is a stupid question...

This is another project that is finally coming to a close and I am proud to have fabbed together. A stupid amount of man hours, getting things where they felt right and a whole metric shit ton of snipping, crimping, and heat shrinking. I am still debating if the raised panel that will go over the electronics will be a see-through lexan or if I will do another piece of plywood and carpet it to hide it all away. Most of the various pouches hold spare bits and pieces for field repairs and I need to order some extra tools that can stay in here (crimper, stripper, butane torch, etc etc).

The large backpack I converted to a pouch on the far left will have rain gear and some spare cloths in it, along with some other misc non-truck items.

Everything single channel is (besides the low voltage circuit portion) are behind 15 amp one way diodes, meaning no other channel can back-feed and interact with another channel period. The "e-lock" channel is not for the truck (maybe one day), its for uh... something else.

I still have some fine details to do (like order black screws, washers, and stuff) because I used a lot of what I had on hand already in the garage to construct it.

The entire thing, excluding the Streamlight flash light probably cost me the same, give or take a few bucks, as what some people might pay for one single large rigid metal molle panel....

Tidy work! I can only imagine the hours spent here to get it just so. Takes a lot of planning and careful execution. Well done sir.
