I'd like to take the Jeep but I think for that long a trip it might not be as comfortable as the Ranger so I'll have to see once I get it and put some miles on it here.
Having owned a 2 door 2017 Wrangler, I can confidently say that it won't be near as comfortable as the Ranger on a trip.

The wind noise, road hum, and short wheelbase make for a tiring ride after a couple of hours.

That's what I'm afraid of. I know the Ranger I can drive for many hours and not be uncomfortable at all.

I'd really like to take the Jeep because there will be a lot of good places to off road along the way. I really wanted the new Extreme Recon Package but you can only get it in the 4dr. It was almost $8K more and I didn't want to spend that much.

What area of MA are you from? I grew up in WMA and lived there for 51 years before moving out there.
I’m Northwest of Boston inside 495. Are you going to keep the Rubicon stock? I think I was asking too much of the MOPAR lift which lead to most of my issues. Plus, that auto in your Jeep is great. As much as I’m a manual fan, I’d take your transmission any day for road trips.

In stock form the Jeep was much better on the road compared to lifted, but even stock will always be louder and wonder a bit compared to IFS and a permanent roof. My son and I drove it from MA to CO and UT in 2020 for camping and wheeling and boy was that highway drive a handful. 6 speed manual, overloaded Jeep with a tent up top. We will do that drive again to CO for more exploring this summer and look forward to doing it in the Ranger. I think you will really enjoy your JL, and the 2 doors are so capable on 33’s. Someday I’ll go back to the two door for the fun vehicle.
Every Jeep owner can benefit from a trailer for long highway trips. I was amazed how much difference it made, especially from the squirrelly CJ-5. The trailer really improves the drive. Rent one and take it for a highway drive. HMMWVs are the same, BTW.

Wife and I took a trip in our 2 door manual shift Rubicon (stock except for front bumper and winch) from No. Calif to Death Valley, Vegas, Zion and Bryce Canyon Parks, Monument Valley, Gooseneck Park, Valley of the Gods, 4 Corners, Cortez, Grand Junction, several days in the Moab area, and then home via the Eastern Sierras. We thought the Jeep was fairly comfortable. The hard top was on so the noise wasn't bad and we could use the AC or heater as needed. We also took trips to the Phoenix area, Flagstaff area, and the Grand Canyon in the Jeep. I often take day long trips in the Sierras. Overall, I find the Jeep comfortable, not as comfortable, perhaps as the SUV or Ranger but good enough.

Thanks, that’s good to know Kent. I know comfort is subjective and I’ll have about 4 months before leaving. Maybe we’ll take a weekend trip up to Sedona or Flagstaff to get a better idea on the ride comfort. It’s only a couple hour drive but in my Tacoma my back would be aching by the time we got there.

Stock?? I already had rock sliders sent to the dealer so they could install them. Lol

I’m not sure how much I’ll do to it yet. It’s my first Jeep and if I really like it I’m sure I’ll get a lot more stuff for it. Right now just the sliders and some inside accessories.
Yes the 8 speed tranny shifts really nice on the ones I test drove here.

I hope it works out well for you and yours. Many times it is a "longest" trip to get where there is great 4-wheeling areas and if you can be comfortable on the pavement driving there, the trip becomes even more enjoyable.

Love the Sedona area and I have an old friend living about 20 miles east of Flagstaff in the Sheba Crater area. Great country!

Finally heard from the transporter today. They've been delayed with the storms on the east coast but will be picking it up tomorrow and will be here Monday or Tuesday. I had one of the guys on the JL forum take some better pictures for me, he was there today picking his up

The new sliders I bought I had them directly shipped to the dealer. They were only charging me $65.00 for the instal and for that price it wasn't worth messing with them. Plus the neighbors kids wouldn't hear a bunch of new swear words echoing from my garage. ?:lipssealed:

Really nice looking Dave. Have a safe trip both ways :like:
Thanks Greg! I decided to have it shipped seeing as it was ZERO degrees in IA yesterday. We're going to take our trip hopefully in June now. Good to see you back on! Hope you had a great Christmas!!
